melting chocolate

I'm going to have a buckeye testing party on Sunday. What is the best kind of chocolate for these and where should I buy it? And a friend of mine said Joann's sells some sort of pot for melting chocolate, any idea if it's worth it or is there something else I should buy?

Thanks!

If you've got a double boiler, those work best. If not, I recommend googling how to put together a makeshift double boiler - the steaming from the water in the bottom pan really is the best when it comes to melting chocolate.

My mom makes chocolate and swears by mercken. You can get it at a few places in Pittsburgh.  And she melts hers slow and low in the microwave in a glass dish.

There is a little candy shop on rt 51 called Sugar and Spice.  That's where she gets her's and the people there know what they are doing.  It's right where Baldwin and West Mifflin meet--just down from the Cloverleaf and Eat N Park.

Double broilers are best, when we make Buckeyes we use semi-sweet chocolate chips and add parrifin wax (found in the baking aisle)

Yum! My mom and I are going to make Buckeyes for the wedding.  Can't wait!

I just put a pot on the stove about halfway full of water, then use a metal bowl overtop of it to melt the chocolate in.  Just make sure the bowl isn't in the water, and is large enough to sit in/on the pot without falling in or falling off.

    Thanks for all the suggestions!

I think I'll try it a couple different ways to see what could be the best option when it comes to making over 800 of these. I'll have to call around some local places for the mercken chocolate.

Meg, I never heard of using wax before. (I've never made these though) I found a recipe for the wax and chips, I'm going to try that too! Are you and your mom making them for the cookie table?
