Heniz Chapel/Other Ceremony Site Ideas

Hi- my finance and I love the idea of having our ceremony at Heinz Chapel. But the fact that you have to wait and call over and over again has taken the excitement and romance out of it for me. While I still think we that we may try to do that, in the meantime, I am trying to locate other ceremony sites in Pittsburgh that are unique. I would like to keep the ceremony in the afternoon 330-4pm timeframe, also a site that doesn't require any religious affiliation is also preferable. Does anyone have any ideas or been to any ceremonies that wow-ed in the pittsburgh area (downtown, oakland area?) Our ideal date would be in August 2013.

Thanks all any advice is appreciated!

Re: Heniz Chapel/Other Ceremony Site Ideas

  • I definitely think its worth trying to book Heinz Chapel if you have the opportunity.. We had to call in April for our wedding next April, it was slightly nerve racking but it was also exciting. We created a facebook group, created a script, and had a bunch of our friends call in for us. Thankfully we got the day and time we wanted too! From what I have seen and read, people who have been married there say its definitely worth it.

Besides that, I heard the Opera House is a good venue (inexpensive as well). I am planning my wedding from Harrisburg, PA so I dont have too much to suggest.

I thought I would add my 2 cents about Heinz. :) Best wishes!

  • Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It's good to hear success stories with Heinz- I think I have heard too many unfortunate stories. Did you have a reception space already selected and/or booked prior to getting your date at Heinz? That is another concern of mine as most I am looking at already have limited dates available.

  • Yup, we took a chance and reserved our reception at the Holiday Inn Airport ( they had a early booking special and everything there is included, even free hotel rooms we are using for family!!) We just explained that there was a chance that we may need to change the date and/or time based on our reservation at Heinz. It worked out that we didnt need to make any changes. I would ask the place you are going to do your reception if they would be flexible and how booked they are that month, in case you need to change your date. What month are you trying to book Heinz? Certain months are more in demand than others.

  • Thanks for that advice- I am trying to get Heinz for the month of August
  • I'm also going to be a heinz chapel bride. Just an fyi heinz chapel gets crazy hot in the summer. I've heard some not so great things from summer brides in HC
  • Thanks! I have heard that also but I guess any non-air conditioned building would be that time of year. I also need to make sure its not around movein time for Pitt! that would be a pain.

  • We ran into an issue as to where to have our wedding ceremony as both of us are non-religious and I didn't want to pay Phipps $2,000 but I still wanted something unique and Pittsburgh!  We have a smaller wedding (under 100) and we are getting married at Kennywood.  All the guests have been super excited about attending a wedding there and our pictures will be amazing.  They are super nice and very accomodating.  They even took us on a tour in March before they were open for the season to pick our spot.
