We want to get married in Fall while the leaves have changed colors but when?

Hello all! I have a few questions about when to get married in the Fall of 2014. We live in southern Georgia and we want to get married when the leaves have changed colors. What date should we set? We're thinking at the end of September but it seems like our summers just keep getting longer. Also, something to keep in mind: My birthday is Nov 6th so we would like to avoid that area. Thank you :)

Re: We want to get married in Fall while the leaves have changed colors but when?

  • I would say maybe early to mid October.
  • The thing with that is our best and closest friend's baby's birthday will be mid October. Her due date is October 16th 2013. Hmmm. Hard decisions.
  • I'm not sure about Georgia, but we don't get peak fall foliage until at least early-mid October in New England.

Also, I understand that you want your best friend to be there, but I'd caution you about setting a date based on one person's ability to attend.  Anyone, no matter how important they are to you, can get sick, be in an accident, have a family emergency, etc that may prevent them from attending.  Life gets in the way sometimes and all you can do is hope for the best.
  • Try googling fall foliage forecast + your area. If you have not booked anything yet, you can also visit sites you are considering this fall to see when they have the best color. October is a really popular to marry where I live, so we still could not get the Saturday we wanted and settled on a Sunday in the same weekend. If fall is popular where you live and you want a big reception or popular reception venue, you may want to book the location you need and just hope for the best. If October is more of an off month, visiting where you may want this year  at the times you are considering could help you decide for next year. Bottom line, though, it is a weather related thing and so not every year will be spectacular at the exact same time.  You can't really plan for Mother Nature to decorate for you, but you can put in a season you like and just hope the weather cooperates.

I am a little confused though because your post originally says you are planning on October 2014 and then you said you were concerned about a baby due October 2013. At first I thought typo, but how would you know when a baby is due more than 12 months in the future? Was your first post a typo and you mean you plan on getting married in just a couple months?
