Heinz History Center?

I'm looking for some information about Heinz History Center.  FILs are graciously taking care of our rehearsal dinner, and FMIL has suggested Heinz History Center for the event!  She visited it yesterday and it sounds perfect- offbeat space, yummy food from Common Plea, and they would even throw in a scavenger hunt of the downstairs :)  Has anyone done anything like this, or had/been to a wedding or other event at the History Center?  I think it sounds so cool.

I haven't been, but the History Center is our top pick for the wedding. The only bummer is that Common Plea is super expensive... but if your FIL are paying, then sweet!

I think the event you described would be AWESOME! Hmmm... I may have to see how much it would be, I'm sure it'd be cheaper than a wedding.  If you get a quote, could you share?

The only item I will not compromise on...my bouquet of all purple tulips wrapped in a swatch from my Mom's wedding dress.

I've never been there for an event but I've been to the 'museum' portion and what a cool venue it is!! :) Also, such a fun idea for a scavenger hunt! Fi's dad keeps asking me to give him ideas (as they are graciously taking care of the RD as well) and I have no clue what to tell him!! I'll keep Heinz History ctr idea in mind!! :) Hope it works out for you!

G, I was planning on having it at one of the Big Burrito restaurants, specifically Soba, Casbah, or Eleven, but NONE of them have private rooms that are handicapped accessible, and we both have grandparents with some limited mobility.  What a bummer, huh?  We also have been considering Sonoma Grile, Lidia's, Hyde Park, and the Mattress Factory, if it helps at all!

Awesome!! Thanks so much for the info!! I was also thinking of checking into Pittsburgh Rare in the Sheraton at Station Square - AMAZING food and AMAZING views of the city... I've thought about Hyde Park as wel!

We're going to have a ton of OOT guests who've never been to Pittsburgh before, so I'm trying to think of fun places that kind of show off the city! Thanks so much for all the ideas! Def looking into them! :)

I love the History Center. It was definitely on my short list for the wedding, but out of my budget.

The only thing negative I have heard about them is that they nickel and dime you with a lot of little charges.

It is so amazing, though, I love the idea!

G, same thing for us- the majority of our guests, at least our friends, are from OOT and have never been to Pittsburgh before.  Doing it at Station Square would be awesome too!

Thanks K- I thought I remembered you having some kind of experience with them :)  We'll have to be sure to go over our contract carefully.

Jen-- You can use Big Burrito Catering at abunch of other places if you really want their food. it would be a lot cheaper than HHC.

N, do they do it anywhere?  Mattress Factory was booked and apparently they don't cater at Phipps anymore, and I just hear about people here having such a hard time finding another place to bring in a caterer.

Here's the website. it lists their venues. Andy Warhol is listed, as is Children's Museum (although I thought Common Plea did them).

Thanks N!  I too thought Children's Museum was only Common Plea, hmm!
