Early shower gifts and thank yous?

So my shower is on Oct 26. I just received my first gift in the mail from a guest who will not be able to attend the shower. When do I send the thank you? Immediately, after the shower, etc???

Re: Early shower gifts and thank yous?

  • Send the note now, so they know you received it.  You shouldn't use it until after the shower, or if you do, be prepared to return to them a new one if for some reason the wedding doesn't go through.  If you get cheques, cash them immediately, and send the note.  Have fun at your shower!!

All of this.  Don't open the gift until the shower, but cash any checks and send the thank-you ASAP.

Uhm....how is the OP supposed to write a thank-you note for a shower gift if she hasn't opened it? @WinstonsGirl is correct, OP. Open the gift, write the thank-you, if it's a cheque, cash it immediately, but don't use the gift/money until after the shower.

  • I got a handful of gifts well ahead of the wedding and I wrote the thank you notes promptly and got them in the mail.  Apparently one of hubby's aunts (who had been one of the early gift givers) spent the majority of the reception raving about how thoughtful we are.  Made me feel warm and fuzzy.  I'd get your thank yous out promptly so people know you have received the gift (and that you appreciate it).  Can't hurt :)

Ha ha!!  I got the notification and I read the bolded and thought "what the hell was I thinking writing that??" before realizing it wasn't me.  Oops, but it made me laugh.  :)

I have totally done that. I'll get notified that someone mentioned me in a thread that either (a) I don't remember commenting on or (b) I'll go read the thread and be like, 'Wait, did I say that? What the what?' and then I'll realise that I was quoted in someone else's quote and then I'm all confused.

  • I sent my thank-yous as soon as I received gifts.  That way, the gift-giver knew their gift was received, and there weren't too many thank you cards piled up at the end to write.

Simple, remove the wrapping, but don't take the gift out of the package and use it.  No need for the "uhm."
