I need some serious alterations

Hi Ladies,

I didn't buy my dress from a bridal shop, and now I need a really excellent seamstress who can help me with a fairly big alteration to an expensive designer wedding dress.  I saw the two recommended vendors -- Mary Lou Cortese and Victoria Mazure -- on the Pittsburgh vendors board.  That's great that they're on the recommended list, but I want to know if other people have used them with success (and how extensive the alterations were) before I hand my dress over.

I want to do some work on the beading (and maybe add just a small amount), and to change the back of the dress from buttons to laces.  I know the alterations will be expensive, but the dress is important to me for sentimental reasons, so I wasn't willing to buy a different dress.

Anyway, has anyone used either of the two ladies above, or had really good experiences with someone else that you feel would do an excellent job on the alterations I described above?  I've read some good reviews of the seamstresses at Clarissa Boutique on the South Side, but I want to cover all my bases.

Thanks everyone!

    Hi,

Morgan (mikeandmorgan) rec'd Mary Lou.  I can't remember how extensive her alterations were and she isn't around anymore.

Dicer rec'd Victoria.  You might want to page her.

i bought my dress from ck bridal, so i worked with mary lou. she was wonderful! she actually snipped some of my dress to make it swoosh more while bustled, and added beading to the back of the dress for me. she also altered my mom's dress and made a bolero for her. the bolero was done in less than a week-she's quick! i highly recommend her!

I bought my dress from a bridal shop that ended up closing before I could have my alterations done there.

So I decided to have my alterations done at Clarissa's in Southside and I was so pleased with the service!! They have really fabulous seamtresses who know their stuff, not to mention I was able to find matching earrings for a necklace I had, as well as a beautiful headpiece to match my dress.

Definitely give them a call, they are wonderful! And I think the pricing was quite reasonable! I would trust them with anything. However, they book up fast so I would call soon! Good luck!

Thanks everyone!  I'm going to talk to Mary Lou and drop by Clarissa's and see which one I feel best with.  I've got lots and lots of time, so I'm not in a hurry.

Victoria did my alterations.  She hemmed mine from the waist, did the bustle, and made it a sweetheart neckline.  She also took in my sister's BM dress from something like a size 10 to a 4.  I was really happy with her and her turnaround time was great.  (Like a week between appts.)
