Centerpieces on a Budget--Ideas for take home pieces

My wedding planner brought up an observation that all the items from the reception would go home with us. Well, my concern is how can I find centerpieces vases that are affordable, but look nice, add fake flowers and then hope someone takes it home? Our colors are lavender, plum, pastel blue and accented with navy blue. They are very unique colors. I would consider a florist, but it is not in our budget right now. What is the difference between not keeping fake colors and flowers that ppl take home die in two days anyway. Please help!

  • I'm really not understanding your question. Are you afraid no one will want to take them home?

Use glass vases, they can be used by anyone, anywhere.

Fresh flowers are inexpensive if you order them online. Check costco.com, samsclub.com, fiftyflowers.com and growersbox.com. You don't need to have ALL your colors in your centerpieces.

I peeked at your bio and see you are interested in the branch centerpiece look. You are right, most people will not want to take them home. If that's the case, then ask your wedding planner to donate them to a home for the aged or nursing home to cheer someone up.

    Good luck.

  • You don't have to do flowers.  There are a million non-floral centerpiece ideas out there.

Don't count on your guests to take the centerpieces home.  Some might be interested, but some might not, and at the end of the day it's your decor and your responsibility to deal with.  A lot of brides resell their decor to make some money back.  I was able to sell our vases and make back about what I paid for them.

For half of our tables, we used hurricane vases with candles that the venue already had.  All I had to buy was silk rose petals to sprinkle around them.

    You could do candles:

    or lanterns:

Go to Google Images and do a search for non-floral centerpieces for tons of ideas and pictures.

  • With any luck you will be able to sell some, if not all, of your centerpiece materials after the wedding. I know that is personally my plan. I have no need for 10 vases of the same kind but hopefully someone else will for a wedding just like I did.
  • Dollar Tree has vases.

You could do potted purple flowers in blue pots.
  • I am not a fan of fake flowers or purple.  I have no use for one in my home, so I would not be taking one home. Go another route and don't think of people wanting to take them

We used the centerpieces shown below, which cost $7.50 each.  The only flowers in them were some freeze-dried rose petals we scattered around them.  We kept two of them to use on our dining room table after the reception, and have sold most of the rest of them.

  • if you are looking for inexpensive vases, we got some wine bottle bud vases from IKEA

for like $3.00 each.  We only got  clear as I wanted clear and green but my store only had clear and pink.  Or else you could go to the dollar tree like someone suggested...
I would totally use real flowers, but the way we are getting around a ton of money with ours, is they are bud vases...only 1 flower will fit.  That or we may use pinwheels in them if we don't actually have enough flowers left over.  We are ordering our flowers from theflowerexchange.com
Also, the Trader Joes by me always has some amazing flowers...I might go to a local grocery store and see what their selections are.  And as for not keeping them, we bought 12, and my mom claimed 3-4 already, and we are giving 2 to his mom as a mother of the groom gift. I want to keep two or three, and bam we are almost out.  maybe give one to my girls... Otherwise I would probably be doing craigslist.org   heck, maybe go on there to see what you can find!
  • I am keeping my eye open at rummage sales and walmart for cylinder vases, which I am filling with purple/blue glass stones...cheap at walmart! Then I have been searching through the woods for decent looking branches....buying a few fake purple orchids which are cheap and look real and hot glueing them to the twigs, and hanging little crystals off them...I will try to get a pic on here, I just started on it and they look great so far!
