So all along in this process both sides of our families have been complaining about the fact that we are not allowing children at our wedding (no one seems to care that we are paying for this on our own, just got out of college, and have limited funds)  nevertheless we have heard over and over how unfair it is to exclude kids, even though 95% of the people complaing did not have kids at their weddings...anyhow, we are now 8 days away from the big day and my FI family is flooding his email with hate mail about what an a**hole he is for not allowing kids, keep in mind the person that called him wasn't even invited (2nd counsin) and now ppl are calling and emailing asking if they can bring additional ppl....I just think it is sooo rude to pull this crap a week before we get married....i feel like if we add more people we are giving in to being strong armed and pressing our budget but if we say no it will cause a huge issue in his family..any ideas

    Normally I would just say stand your ground and tell them no, but why are you even having a wedding if all the people coming are such rude jerks?

    Elope and save your money.

    Who TF sends hate mail to a bride/groom?

    In truth, since you probably can't get out of your contracts I would hold a family meeting and lay down the law.

    stand your ground.  they are in the wrong here.  how many other events in life do you know where people write rude and hateful messages to the HOST of a party because the party being thrown for them, the guests, does not meet their expectations?

    I just feel truly awful, and yes i agree we should have eloped, but honestly neither of us saw this coming,  in part i am glad they are now contacting us.  Before they were constantly calling his mom (who just had surgery) and making her cry, so i am glad that they would at least call us to shield his mom, but at the same time it is just frustrating and i want to just say the next person to say something is disinvited, even tho i know i can't do that

    You (or FH) need to call these people and say this exactly:

    "Your behavior is unacceptable. We are not having children at our wedding. If you cannot find a baby sitter or disagree with this you are welcomed to stay home. Do not contact Mom/FMIL over this again. Do not contact me/us about this again."

    People are whiners about weddings. I had people whining about not being invited. It's tough for them.

    Exactly this.

    That just blows my mind how ugly people can be ... sorry you have to deal with that.  :-(
