How do I ask for giftcards instead of gifts?

My fiance and I will be getting married out of state from where we live, so we don't want to recieve physical gifts at our wedding. We would rather have gift cards. How do we word this to our guests and where do we write this?

You don't - this is the same as asking for cash, and hopefully you would never ask somebody to open their wallet would you?

Just make a very small registry, and guests will get the hint to give you either cash or gift cards. Unfortunately, one of the consequences of getting married out of state is dealing with gits. Hate to tell you, but that's a choice you make and the burden is on you, not your guests to compensate for it.

You don't. I would think people would use common sense and not bring a physical gift to your wedding if you're having it out of state. I think most people give cash anyway, but if I were going to get a physical gift I'd have it mailed to the person's house.

Asking for giftcards is the same exact thing as asking for cash, dont do it. Most people bring cash to a wedding, create a super small registry and people will get the hint. A PP is right, this is not your guests problem that you are coming in from out of state. One of my good friends lives out of state and obviously flew home for her bridal shower, her fparents had to pack everything up and ship it to her. Its really not the end of the world.

You can't ask for gift cards. Create small registries at one or two stores and set them up to have any gifts sent to your home. Most guests will have the gift sent to your house or they will get you a gift card or give you cash, because they know you are out of town.

As far as letting people know where you are registered, you can do it via word of mouth if someone asks you and you can put it on your wedding website. Do not put any registry information with your invitations or save the dates.

You should never ask for any gift of any kind, ever.

If you don't want physical wedding gifts, don't register and decline showers. People will get the hint. Those that are comfortable giving money or gift cards will do so, and those that are only comfortable giving physical gifts with either forgo the gift of pick something on their own.

If you have reason to believe that there are a lot of people that are only comfortable giving physical gifts, a small registry is advisable.

I went to a bridal shower that did a "shoe box" gift. They requested that the gift fit in a something the size of a shoebox so the bride and groom could "move" it. Needless to say, the received a lot of gift cards and money. But they also didn't suggest what people could get, merely that they keep in mind their situation of moving.

Have you heard of My Ribbon Gift Collection? It's a gift card but it doesn't list the prices of the gifts in the catalog and there's a great one called "I Do". Of course you will know the prices of them already since you're the one that would be asking for them but it's still a great idea if you want to have your gifts shipped to you.

Here's a link to the "I Do" catalog and price:

And a link to the entire Ribbon Collections:

If you tell people about it and they would like to order a gift card, our IBO Key is Bar and our IBO#6515827

Thanks and I wish you the best of luck!

Many times guests get offended with this... It better not to ask for any thing. Do not create a registry. Guests will get your hint and hopefully they will not bring physicall gifts.
