New Knottie with major venue difficulties

Hi fellow Knotties,
This is my first post here, and I was hoping you guys could help me out.  I'm looking for a venue that will allow an outside caterer that will give them access to a full kitchen- not just a warming kitchen.  I want to have a Chinese banquet catered, which requires use of at least a stove.  Has anyone had anyone heard of or used a venue that allows this?  Hotels are an option, but most don't like having outside caterers.  I'd really appreciate any suggestions!! Thanks!!

Are you planning on usiong a proferssional caterer or is someone that you know planning on cooking the food?  A lot of places require a professional caterer because they carry certain types of liability insurance that a private person would not have.  If it is a private person I would suggest looking at community halls, VFWs and similar type places.  If you are dealing with a professional caterer they should be able to give you a list of venues that they can work with.

    I hope that helps!

Thanks for the advice.  I have a professional caterer that I plan on using.  They've given me a few places they've catered, mainly hotels.  One hotel they mentioned no longer allows caterers to use the kitchen, and another option, the Baltimore Aquarium, would put me way over my budget, since I would also have to pay for their exclusive caterer for wait staff, furniture, etc.  It's essentially paying for 2 full caterers!  Rather than settle for a venue that I like, I'd rather do some poking to see if i can find a place that I looooooove.

Who is your caterer?  Also, what kind of place are you looking for and what area?  Do you mind sharing?

When I decided on a caterer they gave me a list a mile long of all the places they had been before.  Off the top of my head I can remember:
Cloisters Castle, Westminster Hall, 1840's Ball Room, Oregon Ridge Park (Thjey have a Lodge), Padonia Park Club, Liriodendron Mansion

Many venues have an exclusive caterer list and you have to pick from the list, but since you need someone that can do traditional chineese food you may want to call a couple places and ask them if they would consider adding your caterer to their list of approved caterers.  I would think there will be other brides in the future that may want something similar.

The caterer I'm looking to work with is Seven Seas in Rockville.  I really like museums, like Baltimrore Museum of Industry and the B&O Railroad Museum, but I'm also open to other types of venues, especially hotels and ballrooms.  I'm trying to steer clear of outdoor receptions, in case of rain.  I've got a few requests out to the places you mentioned, thanks for that!  Many of those places with an exclusive catering list will have their caterers treat Seven Seas as a sub-vendor, which is how the costs end up sky high.  I  thought other knotties may have had a similar issue with their venues.

Check the Hippodrome and the Visionary Arts Museum. I've been to a large event at Hippodrome and a wedding as VAM. Good luck!
