Transportation for Guests

Hello ladies!

My wedding ceremony/reception venue is one exit away on the highway from the hotel that I will be recommending to my guests.  My entire family is from OOT as well as most of my college friends who will be attending.  Unfortunately the hotel does not have a shuttle service that we can use to tote guests back and forth from the wedding.  Is anyone renting something to make sure that their guests get back to the hotel safe and sound?  I was trying to come up with ideas that were different than renting a limo....limos are crazy expensive and sometimes only can fit 10 people in them.

I went to my friend's wedding and I loved that they had a hotel shuttle that brought us back to the hotel after the reception.

Happy Monday everyone!!

Re: Transportation for Guests

  • A wedding we went to in October hired a bus company. I have also been to a wedding that hired trolleys.

  • Yep.  We'll have a shuttle to take people from the hotel to the venue.  We're getting a half-bus that is black (a little nicer than a traditional shuttle bus).
  • The hotel is about 25 minutes from my venue but I'm not renting transportation. I made this decision because our wedding is about 80 people, the bridal party (a big bridal party - about 20 people total) will be staying at the mansion where we are getting married and mostly everyone else will be carpooling with someone else. But if you have a decent amount of people, it would be a good idea. A lot of decent transportation companies have shuttles or even school buses that are cheap to rent that get the job done. Good luck!

Did you just "google" bus companies in your area to find companies that have buses?

    A half-bus sounds awesome!

  • We have a shuttle provided by the hotel if we book a certain amount of rooms.  I am pretty confident that will happen, however, we have researched backups just in case.  Locally, we have a strech hummer and a party bus that are able to be rented and will use one of those for guests if we do not get the hotel shuttle.

That's what I've done for sorority socials and things when we got them.

  • I personally think it's up to the guests to get back. We're saying screw it to the limo because the one we had decided to screw us over so we're driving our cars. We're definitely not paying for a shuttle service

This, we booked it through our limo company. It does runs for 1.5 hours before and after the reception start time.

  • Our wedding is about 45 minutes from where we live. To be honest I'm leaving everyone's transportation up to them, my fiance's family lives near where the wedding is. My parents live in the same city we live in although I think they are getting a hotel room down there. And as for family or friends from OOT, I honestly don't know what their plans are.

  • We booked a shuttle from the hotel to the reception venue at the beginning and end of the night.  I used a local transportation company and we were able to create a "split package".  Try Google or checking the phone book and getting quotes.

  • We're using a limo company.  :)
  • We know that our friends and family will be drinking at our wedding... we had some good friends die in a car crash a few years ago after a friends' wedding.  That is NOT how we want to remember our wedding day and are therefore providing a 40 passenger bus to bring everyone to and from the hotel and venue.  It just isn't worth it to us to have something bad happen.  It wasn't that expensive either.  Plus we want everyone to enjoy themselves with minimal concerns :)

We actually asked our venue to recommend some companies and they did!  You could try that.

This is exactly why I think I want to have a form of transportation.  I don't want to have to worry about anyone/thing the entire night.
