So annoyed at Social Security....vent.

I am soooo frustrated at the SSA presently.

I sent in the name-change form listing my new name, a certified copy of my marriage license (which they returned with a receipt stating they had reviewed/received it), and today, my new SS card arrived....which still has my maiden name on it. So now I have to wait until Monday to complain to them, and start the process over. Awesome. *sigh*

That is all...thanks for letting me vent. :)

  • oh that is frustrating.  it has been recommended to me that i go to the office about 20-30 minutes from where i live, that it will be easier than going through the mail.  is this possible for you?

  • Yeah, that's why I went in to the office.  It was a long wait (friendly tip: don't go at lunchtime), but I knew that it was accurate.  Best to keep big bureaucracies on a short leash, paperwork gets screwed up so easily.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • That's frustrating!  We went to the office as well to prevent any errors.

I actually took a day off to deal with changing my name on my DL and my SS card because I figured the wait time would be ridiculous. It was. Bring a book.
  • Thanks ladies! I'm definitely going to go to the office next week and try to get this straightened out. :)

  • That stinks, at least there is not charge, but I know it is still a PITA.

I went in person to the SS office as well. There is one about 5 mins from where we live. I would look online for locations to see if there one near you. Mine arrived via mail within about a week and a half.

Yes, the wait time was horrendous, so definitely bring something to do if you go in person. You can't use or play with your phone either, it is prohibited & there is a guy that stands there & asks you to put it away if he catches you with it.
  • That's ridiculous about prohibiting phones, but thanks for the heads-up. *makes mental note*

  • I'm not married yet, but generally whenever I have to go to the DMV, SS office, etc I always go first thing when they open. That way you get it over with early, the lines aren't as long, and the people that work there aren't as cranky as they are later in the day. Once I went to SS at 9 in the morning, there were 3 people in front of me and I was out in 10 minutes.

  • Yep, I went to the one near me, and it was surprisingly quick- I then went straight to the DMV with my new card and got a new license, which took AGES.
  • I'm going to be there when they open, so hopefully I'll get lucky and it will be quick and painless...lol.
