Odd question - hopefully not TMI

Is it true that if you put deodorant on your thighs it will keep them from chaffing?

I ask because I have chafe-prone thighs and I'd prefer not to wear spanx or bike shorts if I don't have to. It's hot enough in my dress and I'm afraid that adding extra layers will make it worse. I'd like to be able to dance at my wedding and not worry.

You can also buy some stuff at the store to prevent it.

Runners use Body Glide to keep from chaffing.

I can't wear dresses without spanx or hose of some sort.

I don't know about deodorant, but you could also try body glide.

How long will you be in the heat? I also have had issues with chafing, but never had problems on the wedding day.  Even though (as I told my wedding planner), my crotch was really hot after taking pictures out doors.

I thought marathon runners use Vaseline to prevent chafing?

Bandaid makes these anti-blister sticks to rub on areas that rub against stuff a lot.  I use that when backpacking.

I wore Spanx, and it didn't feel too much hotter. Then again, my dress had a bunch of tulle and stuff under the skirt, so it was like a furnace anyway.

Another Body Glide recommendation. That ish is amazing.

I used deodorant on my thighs when I was in Vegas last year.  It was just too hot for spanx/hose/shapwear.  It worked pretty well.

[QUOTE]This is something I didn't even think about, but considering that this winter has been downright balmy, I'm terrified that I'm going to get married in a heat wave and the church will be 113 degrees.  Thanks, Achi.  I'm going to put Body Glide on my list.  :)

You're welcome! This winter has been crazy. Everyone is joking that October is going to be crazy hot. I don't think it's very funny.

Another recommendation for Body Glide. I've never heard anything about deodorant.

I had this problem when doing the 3-day walk, and while the deodorant certainly helped prolong it, it didn't stop it entirely.  And once the chaffing did start, the deodorant did nothing.

I would recommend starting with deodorant, and bringing a pair of longer spandex shorts with you.  As soon as you feel the chaffing start, put the shorts on.  FI has also tried some of those anti-chaffing sticks, but they didn't do much good for him.

Great suggestion Lobsters! And thanks x 2 Duds! My feet suffer when breaking in new shoes so while I'll be wearing mine around the house for awhile before the wedding I think keeping some of the Rub Relief on had is probably going to be a good idea.

Thank you for posting this question!  I'm adding Body Glide AND Rub Relief to my shopping list - I was thinking I'd need to wear some spanx or something and I'd really prefer not to.

I wore spanks and I was so hot I kept lifting up my dress to get some cool air under outside.
I would try vasaline or as the other ladies said, body glide.

Alynne- At my brothers wedding this past July I wore my spanx and even in my knee length dress I got so hot I almost blacked out at one point. I have a tendency to overheat easily so I would really rather not wear anything unnecessary.

I use this stuff on my thighs in the summer. It's awesome, and it comes in a small enough deodorant-style container so it fits easy in a purse.

There's a chafing gel that Monistat makes that's actually pretty great too, and it can double as a makeup primer (it was recommended for that in Allure or something like that).

And I'm adding Rub Relief to my shopping list too.  I've been looking for something like that since my shoes are no longer completely snug against my feet now that I've broken them in.  Does it leave any kind of mark on the shoe?  And is the stick better than the foam you put in your shoes?

Score.  Thanks for the info duds!

Achi- I didn't think of that either, that is going on my list. I can just see our outdoor wedding in May being a sauna with the way this weather has been.

Rub Relief is the shiit. It leaves no marks and actually works. Just make sure you or a friend/BM has it on you. It doesn't last forever, but if you reapply it occassionally you should be able to prevent blisters.

Oh trust... it doesn't have to be hot to have serious chaffing. I could barely walk the next day and I got married in November. I recommend packing whatever you put on with you so you can reapply as the night goes on.

<div>I second this one - it feels dry and non-greasy, and it doesn't get sticky if you get sweaty (like I feel Body Glide does)</div><div>

I've heard great things about Body Glide too.

I swear by Monistat Chafing relief powder gel.  It's in a blue and purple tube.  I used to never be able to wear dresses or skirts without nylons but now I can go all day and not have any discomfort.

Another vote for monistat. It's amazing. I use it as a makeup primer as well and it helps my makeup go on flawlessly and helps it last.

Between the Sheets by Pure Romance is awesome for this as is coohy spray.  Extra bonus of Between the Sheets is it dries the "wet spot in bed" in seconds

I never thought that this could be an issue. I don't want to sound rude, but can this chaffing happen in someone whose thighs don't touch when walking? I have never had a problem wearing dresses in the summer. WIll it be a different issue in my wedding dress?

I just use the same plain old Secret solid I use for antiperspirant and it works great. It says to only use it on your underarms but I think as long as you're not rubbing it on your actual hoohah it should be fine. Thigh skin isn't superabsorbant or anything.
