Self esteem booster

I've been meaning to start looking in the mirror and complimenting myself on physical characteristics in an attempt to start feeling better about my body image. I think it's just a good idea in general to compliment yourself often because we all know we are our own worst critics and we probably hear plenty of criticism while the compliments are lacking.

So: Write down 2-3 compliments that you will tell yourself today. They can be physical or not. Even starting with little things is good! : )

  • 1) I will kick ass in school this semester
    2) I have an amazing ass
    3) I truly care about people

Can we give compliments to other people????

    Good idea, Ely! :)
  • How about you can only compliment others as long as you make sure to compliment yourself first? That way they don't forget to do that, lol.

    :) I like that!

sooo since, I complimented myself 3 times, I'm going to throw out three for three different ladies

    1) Bside - You are an amazingly strong woman. I don't think you realize it all the time, but you kick ass. The fact that you came on here and told us that you weren't doing well, you were depressed, etc... Blows my mind. I have never been good at admitting when I feel sucky and letting people in. Your strength and determination are amazing. <3

    2) Liv - Your strength through all your health issues and the ups and downs that go along with that, is amazing. I know some days you get down about it, but the fact that you keep pushing to find answers, be healthy and happy - gives me inspiration to keep fighting for myself. <3

    3) Peek - You are awesome. You let go of a relationship that wasn't right for you, moved to SC for a while, moved to FL to do an internship. Your drive to do what's right for you, and what will make you blessedly happy, reminds me that I can to. <3
  • This may sound easy, but since I struggle a lot with body image, this is actually kinda hard for me, which is why I posted, because it's sort of a challenge. It's hard for me to find something to compliment myself on without automatically following it up with how I could make it better.

    1.  My butt looks pretty cute in my new jeans!
    2.  My stomach is toning down and flattening out.
    3.  I have pretty eyes.

I really took like 10 minutes to come up with that. My self esteem is worse than I thought, lol. The second one shouldn't even count because it's still in the process so I feel like I am seeing it as something that's not there yet. I need to practice this more often.

  • 1) My hair looks really great today despite the rain.

    2) I look really cute today. I'm wearing a black cardigan over a cami, a black knee-length skirt with black leggings & knee-high black wedge boots. (I like black btw)

    3) I'm a really generous person.

    1) My hair is really soft and pretty.
    2) I can get through the next week and a half.
    3) I'm completely badass!

Hopefully that can get me through. :) Working from home has made me feel like such a slob with the no really getting dressed and the no makeup.
  • And now compliments for others :)

Ollie: Put simply, you're amazing.  I can't believe you have 2 little girls & you balance your life as well as you do.  I think you're an awesome mom & hope you can rub some of that off on me for in the future!

Yaga: You're one of the funniest people I've ever met & I envy how good you are with words.

Ely: You are such a beautiful girl, inside & out.  I wish I had 1/10th of the perseverance that you have.  You're truly an inspiration!

<div>That's a good idea! I notice my mood depending on how I'm dressed pretty often. I don't have to get dressy for work at all, we sit at our desks trading all day everyday.  We get up to use the bathroom and that's it.  I also work with all men, there are 7 women in my area.  Most of those women, though, see clients during the day so of course they get dressed up for work.  When I come in wearing jeans and a sweater and Uggs and I see them in their nice clothes I usually feel kind of "less-than". Does that make sense? And yet I don't change it, I like to be comfy LOL</div>

  • I'm doing this before I read anyone else's... :)

    1) My arms are looking pretty good these days... thanks Insanity
    2) I think my eyes are really pretty
    3) I have a figure that other people sometimes wish they had. (I don't mean that to sound conceited... just that I need to remember that for a 36 year olld woman, I look good, and I need to stop nit-picking the few areas that aren't perfect).

Ely - I hope you know how inspiring you are. I know you want to lose those last 20'ish pounds, but you should know that the fact that you lost the 100+ pounds and have KEPT IT OFF is amazing, and you should be proud of yourself every day that you are making the right choices for your own health.

Liv - The struggles that you have been through with your health would have brought many a strong woman down. You are a true source of inspiration with the way you take the setbacks and keep on striving to find the answers for yourself.

HelloTarra/Sunbird - You also have been a picture of strength as you fight through your health issues. It's because of you and Liv that I thank God for my health every day.... and I hope that should that change, that I can handle it with the grace that the two of you do.

All of you ladies - Your level-headedness, diversity, and compassion make each of my days brigher. I honestly can't imagine how boring my life would be right now without NEY! :)

PS - I reserve the right to add more to these later!

I don't think that sounds conceited at all. When I was as big as I was, I used to look around and see that I was the biggest person in the room, every time. I used to wish to look like any other girl in the room. So now that I'm smaller, I actually once in a while look at myself and realize that I now have a body that people would maybe want to have and it makes me proud of how far I've come and also incredibly driven to help others any way that I can ... when they want the help, that is.  And you definitely do have a hot figure! : ) So you should definitely be proud of it. You beat most girls that I know in their 20's! : )

Also, thank you! : ) I know I don't always give myself credit for how far I've come. I feel good about it, but at the same time can't help but be distracted by how far I still have to go. I will cry tears of joy when I get down to a BMI of 25. I know that those aren't always accurate, but that was my goal from the beginning to get down to a healthy weight range. It definitely helps to hear such kind words from you all! : )

    1.  I just rocked the eff out of my data's world.  Which is kind of a big deal since I thought I had it yesterday and found out that I was doing it wrong.  I sat down for an hour, and we have GOOD data!

    2.  My shorts are just a smidge looser than they were the other day.  And they just came out of the dryer.

    3.  I've done a pretty decent job of eating healthy this week.

    For my ladies:

RDR - you look awesome today!  And pretty much amazing in every picture I've seen of you.

Nursey - I know you don't pop in here too much, but you've been an amazing friend.  I love that we can talk for hours about pretty much anything.  It makes me really want to move to AZ so that we can be IRL friends.

Raven - Your zealousness for school makes me really proud.  You remind me a lot of me a couple years ago. You're going to go really far, and I'm really happy and excited for you.

Irish - I feel like we're both headed towards bitter old maid hood together.  Not really, but I feel like you understand that statement.  If not, I'll clarify on skype.  Whenever we manage.

I'll add to this list later...once I've thought through it more.  :)

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • Since we're talking about self esteem, here's my .02.

IRL, people perceive me to be an uber confident person, and I am.  But everyone has insecurities, even me.  I wish I was 30 pounds thinner.  I hate the constant dark circles under my eyes.  And I'm self concious about my arms.  I'm impatient, sometimes lazy, and take things too personally.

But there's so much about myself that I LOVE.  I have nice hair, pretty eyes, a pretty face, good skin, a well proportioned body, and good teeth.  I'm smart, funny, caring, considerate, well spoken, and an overall good person.

The fact is that EVERYONE has things about themselves that they don't like.  You shouldn't let yourself get so caught up on one imperfect leaf that you lose sight of the forest of beautiful trees in front of you.

Look in the mirror, confess your insecurities, and say "But I'm AWESOME anyway, so who the f*ck cares?!"
