Would you live here?

This is a house near where I grew up---but it was always covered by trees; although we knew it was a castle, it was hardly visible from the road.

It just went up for sale, and I'm obsessed with it (mainly from the outside).

Would you ever live in a house like this?

Re: Would you live here?

  • It would be interesting, but looks like it needs TONS of work inside... it'd be a big project to buy it. It looks cool from the front, but the back and the "hut" in the back look to be in poor repair.

I'd love to rip it apart and redo the inside. HOly cow that woudl be awesome.

There was a Bernstein house (he studied under Frank Lloyd Wright) that was for sale in Charlotte that was very close to the Cullen house. I wanted it. Badly. It had a 7' deep coi pond that you could see into from the bottom level of the house. 1,000,000 and then about 250,000 for rennovations and I could have had it. Stupid parents who abandoned me as a baby. King and Queen, where are you?!?

[QUOTE]That would be a no-go for me because I would feel silly having company pull up to a castle. I'm sure fi would take it though, dude has a thing about turrets. Wants one, bad.

I would feel so badass about giving directions to "my castle"---inviting people over would be such a sport, "Oh yea, hang a left at the light. It's the first castle on your right."

  • Yea, even the outside doesn't appeal too me - just too dark.

Here's the floor plan I drew up when I was 14 for my dream house... the 2 most outer lines would all be glass. I think at this stage in life I'd modify some things though haha

  • Not for that amount of money, no. It looks like it needs a lot of work done to it. Its cute enough, but nms.
  • That looks really awesome!  Definitely needs some work, but really cool and different.  I love that fireplace!
  • awesome floor plans, roxy!

and Nebb---the listing price is just ridiculous---even for the amount of acres. There's a dif. listing for just the house, barns, and 4 acres, and it's only half the price. When I heard it was for sale, I thought it wouldn't even be near $150-$200thousand; I was really surprised with this price.

  • I would, and I would wear a pointy princess hat every single day, and roll all my "r"s.

  • No.  But mostly because it's in Ohio. A year of living there was more than enough for me.

  • I love unique houses. I would totally live there. The inside needing so much work though would make me offer way less than its listed for. That paneling HAS TO GO!
  • I wouldn't.

  • I know, right? My 14 year old self was so brilliant
  • Totally my style. If I had an extra 850k, and a desire to live in Ohio, then hell yes.

Here's the house I want! It's still for sale, and the price has dropped! Now if it will just drop about $600K more...
  • Bec- I'll split it with you? It's big enough...right?
I miss the Carolinas so, so, much. I must talk T into moving..

Wow, that house makes me very happy. The stairs are so fun!

  • Looks like the inside hasn't been redone in 30-40 years, so that would be a lot of time and money. But other than that... it's a bit odd. But maybe.

  • Roxy, come on! I get the spaceship room though! :)

The stairs, the pond, the fireplace, the sinks... all of it makes me happy. I'd be so badass walking out of that place to my car every morning in my big sunglasses and pencil skirts....
  • Bec, where's Pellyn Wood? I don't remember that area. We lived in Myers Park when I was a kid, between Brandywine and Selwyn.

When I moved back as an adult, I was up in the University area, in the quality area near (I'm blanking on the neighborhood's name) where all the gang activity was centered - in Woodland Hollow apartments.  Then, it was down to G-town..... Hooray.

    Works for me!
I plan on leaving in skinny jeans, gladiators and an awesome flowy top (so we don't match) but I want big sunglasses too.
  • I have no idea. J says it's near Southpark. I don't really care. I'd build a moat with a loch ness monster to protect me if I could live there. :)
  • It's interesting and renovating would be a challange, I like that but it's in a fly over state :P

  • I know some of Southpark - I bet it's in some of the "newer" developments. The road in front of Southpark ended (WHY can't I remember names tonight?) right there when we lived there.

He'll know where I'm talking about - my mom and I used to walk from our house to the grocery store in the Park Road shopping "centre" (it's now a Michaels or something - not the Harris Teeter there now). I went to PR Elementary, which is now a Montessori school in Mecklenburg Schools.

  • I'm kind of obsessed with turrets actually, but that still isnt' quite my style. I agree that it could be awesome redone, but even if I had the money to fix up a house that hard core I think I'd pick a different one. These are the kind of turrets I prefer:

Actually I'm not even positive that's considered a turret. But yes, it's the house from Practical Magic if you're wondering.

  • Hell to the yes, but then, you've seen pictures of my own house; the real estate agent described it as 'weird' to us when we went to view it. Needless to say, we adored it! ;P
  • Meh, kind of cool, but so not worth that price.
