OMG. Don't know whether to laugh or get a hysterectomy.

This confirms my suspicion that the bump is completely BSC.

From July 2011 Moms board, "How and When are You Telling Everyone":

His plan is to lead the prayer before dinner, and include LO in it. Then, they can watch the video I've made that features me with my first real bfp, me telling dh, and a third part that will be us at the first ultrasound. I plan on editing it all together with some music...It will stink, but it's something I've wanted to do since forever! LOL.

  • Any idea what BFP means?  I saw it a lot when I used to read the PostSecrets, and I can't figure out what it means.  Big Fuccking Pregnancy?

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Aerin, yes.

Gosh, I can't wait to get pregnant so that I can make a video for my family and friends featuring a stick upon which I have peed!
  • I don't know the acronym, but know that BFP means that someone is pregnant.  A video... after a prayer.... um... yeah....

I'm so glad I'm never having kids.

  • I sense an Oscar-worth production on the horizon.

Why not follow it up with a game of hang man, just in case they didn't get the point via prayer and video.

  • BFP = Big Fat Positive!
  • I normally do not post on this board but this understandably caught my attention as I was scrolling down. This is hilarious and mildly frightening. Also, it further solidifies my already firm intention to never open my womb for business. I am also quite happy that I am not on the receiving end of this pre-dinner entertainment. I would laugh.
  • Who rolls camera when they pee on a stick??

It's the same mentality as the people who ask for clever, creative ways to ask their bridesmaids.  Everything has to be a big freakin' production (BFP).  It's no longer enough to call your parents and say "Congratulations, grandma and grandpa!" because that's not memorable enough.

In fact, I'd be willing to guess that this chick also made a BFP about every aspect of her wedding.

I think the video thing sounds embarrassing.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • I don't know why, but I got really annoyed by the chick who was like "Oh MIL loves to knit, so I'm telling her by giving her a book of knitting patterns for baby cloths". I really don't know why that bugs me, but it just does.

  • DH is a bit of a prankster and a self-confessed shiit-stirrer, so I'm sure that when it finally does happen for us (LOOOONG down the road), he'll want to come up with some sort of devious and evil way of sharing the news.

Meg, maybe it's the implication of, "Hey, make me some baby clothes" that you don't like?  I don't think it's a horribly offensive idea, personally, but I can see where it could be taken the wrong way.

I think you might be right. I crochet, and both times when my sister got pregnant she and my mother were like "So, you're making the new baby a blanket, right?". And I've also had a few friends pull that crap on me, too. It's like if they never said anything, I probably would have done it on my own and not thought twice about it. But the fact that it was just automatically assumed I would, just irked me, and really put me off, and I wound up just buying a registry gift instead.

I'm sure part of it is also that I'm incredibly hungry right now and dinner isn't for another 2 hours, so that just has me stabby. I "don't do" being hungry very well.

  • So I obviously need a camera crew every time I pee on a stick when we're TTC?

I'm all for figuring out a cute and creative way to tell people (for at least the first one), but yikes.  I don't need a slideshow!

This pretty well supports my theory on why the hands-off approach to WP stuff is best.  I don't think anyone really likes being told what to do, especially when it comes to gift-giving.

And I feel you.  I'm positively starving, but it'll be nearly two hours until I get home for dinner.  DH has been home since before 3:00, so I really hope he cooked something.  I think I might be hypoglycemic or something, I start fading fast if I go too long without food.  Like, feeling weak and sleepy and such, and I perk right up once I have some food in me.

  • Ugh, that's right up there with being asked for legal advice at a party on a Saturday night.

  • I just really want to know why somebody filmed their test results ... maybe it changes when you actually want kids, but I've peed on a stick before, I most certainly didn't need anybody "watching at home" when I read the results, ya know? Granted, I've never been TTC, but even if I wanted a baby, I just don't see me ever saying "Honey, this might be the time, grab the video camera!!!!".

What would posses somebody to do that? I'm just really confused (And perhaps this is the lack of food messing with me) as to why somebody would feel the need to ever film the results of a pregnancy test?

  • Anyone else DYING to know what other videos she comes up with for her pregnancy and raising the child?  Will the "Pee on a Stick 2" be as exhilarating as "Pee on a Stick"?  ONLY TIME WILL TELL!

"I think bablingbrooke is the 13 yr old marring her cousin at the town hall. Lets all give her a big hand. And hope her inbred children can live normal lives." -tabs.

A word of warning from your friends at Cracked.com: Remember that text is going to be how you make your first impression over the internet; if every third word you type is misspelled, people will automatically assume that you're a moron.
  • Do I dare ask if the Bumpers are oohing and aahing over what a good idea it is, and how they're going to rush home to their macbooks to create their own videos to post to their youtube channels?

  • This further emphasizes the point that NO ONE will ever be as excited about major life events as the one who's experiencing them- weddings, babies, prom- whatever!

If I was on the receiving end of that, I'd wonder what got into that person's head to think it was okay.

I like most people am glad FI and I have chosen to not have kids, and then of course I get the "you're not old enough to realize what a child could bring" speech because of my age.
