Registry with international guests?

Help!!! Half, if not more, of our guests are coming from Australia and the UK, but I've discovered that many online registries only allow purchases from the US and its territories. A few allow from the UK, but hardly any allow from Australia. Has anyone else run into this problem, and if so what did you do???

Re: Registry with international guests?

  • Honestly, they probably won't ship presents or travel with them.  Either they'll buy them stateside or do cash most likely.

  • I really wouldn't worry about it.  If they want to give you a gift, they'll figure out how.  That's not a complication you need to be concerned with.

  • Agreed.  They'll probably just give you cash or a check.

If you're set on registering, though, what about online like at Amazon?  I'm not sure about their policies but it seems like they'd be more international-friendly.

  • All of FI's side, plus a few of my friends are from the UK or Oz, plus we live in the UK and the wedding is in PA.  I agree with pp peoplw will figure it out.
  • You probably know this, but Bloomingdales is ok for guests from UK (and France, Germany, Japan and Canada) to shop online. No luck for Australia though...although we had two Australian couples at ours, one of whom ordered at Bloomingdale's by phone and said it was a piece of cake and they were very accommodating. Pottery Barn was not so cooperative with international guests, and the phone system was tricky there.

  • We have a few international guests coming from Russia, Austraila and Mexico.  We're not even bothering them with where we're registered.  Considering the flight costs, hotel and in case of Russians visa hassles we're just glad they are bringing themselves let alone a present.  Like pp said if push comes to shove and they want to get you something they will give you a somewhat thick envelope.
