  • Practice. Heel-toe and try not to roll your ankles too much. I have the problem of my ankles rolling to the sides, which could mean I might twist my ankle if the heel doesn't plant right or I roll too far to one side.

Also, even though it's frusterating, take smaller steps. Hills and inclines will be your biggest irk, but practice, practice, practice will help. Have your man watch you while you walk to see if you've improved or look normal walking in them will help as well.

I've walked toe - heel for years to keep from slipping on your heel. You have to practice though to keep from looking like Frankenstein.

There are a lot of you tube videos on how to walk in heels.

Start with good posture, stand up straight. Shoulders back, stomach pulled in rear-end tucked. Basically pull yourself up to your full height.  Do not stiffen up in your hips when walking.

Some people try to walk in heels by putting their toes down first then the heel. That is backwards. Put your heel down first, then come down on the ball of your foot and not on your toes.  This will be especially helpful if you have wobbly ankles

Other people try to grip with their thighs. If you have good posture and walk heel to toe (ball of foot) this won't be as much of a problem.

This isn't the best video but it shows wobbly ankle, toe-to-heel, and gripping thighs.

Also, the best heel walk puts one foot slightly -not completely- in front of the other, something we don't do in regular shoes.

This video gives the medical information about posture, short and actually kind of interesting http://video.shoehunting.com/video/How-To-WALK-in-HIGH-HEELS-6

People have given great advice, and of course you should wear whatever you like for your wedding day. I just have a question: if you're uncomfortable in heels, why would you want to wear them?  I guarantee they will be distracting you all day and interfering with your being in the moment and enjoying the day.

I have plenty of experience wearing heels, but seldom wear them nowadays, so when I do they're a pain in the butt.  I'm assuming you'll be wearing a floor-length dress, so it won't really matter visually. I recommend practicing (if you really want to try it) as much as you can, then make a decision as you get close to your wedding day as to whether it will add to or detract from the day.

Also, if you can find some you like (they won't look fancy), you may want to try to get some dancer's shoes (Capezio, etc).  They're designed to be easier to move in, and the structure is better than most regular heels.  Whatever you decide, good luck!
  • thanks for your advise i already thought about buy shoes to  dance in i  just really  wanted to walk down the aisle in heels, but I think if i buy  a pair that like and have to many  problems walking than i will just  wear shoes i know how to walk in.
  • I'm not trying to be the grammar or spelling police, but since it's been in two posts now:  you asked for and were given adviCe (noun) by people who took the time to adviSe (verb) you.

"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • Just something to think about - if you do decide to wear heels for the ceremony etc. your dress will need to be a certain length, and if you switch to flats to dance with and whatnot, your dress will be too long and you might get tripped up, or people will be stepping on the hem, etc.
