Any advice on dress shopping?

My first appointments to look at dresses are tomorrow! I'm going to David's Bridal and the Bridal Shop at the Avenues (Maggie Sottero trunk show!) Any advice/tips from any of you who have already begun dress shopping or have found your dress already?

Be open minded. I ended up with a dress that I completely didn't expect. Also, I wore really funky big earrings the day I tried on dresses and they were distracting. I would suggest wearing some diamond studs or something simple. Bring a hair clip if your hair is longer. Some places had extra ones but you might want your own :) I would also bring a pair of heels similar to the height of what you want to wear on your wedding day.

Plan to not be able to take pictures. I am not sure about David's Bridal but the one at the Avenues says no pics. I would sneak a few in the dressing room :)

OH...have fun and remember some girls don't get the "this is the dress" feeling. I didn't. Thats probably why I ended up with two dresses.

I agree that you should be open minded.  You might end up picking something you never thought you would have liked.  At the same time though, go in with an idea of what you do like.  That will help lead you in a direction.

I wore my hair down when I went dress shopping and it drove me crazy the whole time.  Definitely bring something to pull it back with.

When I tried on dresses at The Bridal Shop, the consultants let me sneak pictures every time the manager wasn't looking, so take your camera with you.

Definitely pull your hair up if thats how you are thinking of wearing it for the wedding. I would wear jewelry similar to what you think you might be wearing that day as well. I have a double strand of heirloom pearls that everyone in my family has gotten married in. I didnt wear them and I dont love the way they look with my dress. Ive gotten over it but it would have helped to wear them that day. Also, I wore my hair down and am now wearing it up for the wedding, and I look 100% different with it up so thats key. Make sure you wear undergarments that you dont care if other people see because they will be helping you get into the dresses. Try on a lot of different kinds of dresses because you never really know what you will like until it is on! I thought I wanted one thing and went a completely different direction. Have fun!!

I agree with PP. It took me forever to find my dress and actually I haven't even tried it on yet. I know its a chance but I love it. I took bits and pieces of dresses I tried on that I liked and I found the perfect one. and its a Maggie to :) and its suppose to be in around mid June to early July and I cant wait. I got it from The Bridal Shop. Have fun and cant wait to hear how it went :)

Park Avenue in Mandarin is having a trunk show for Maggie Saterro April 23-26, that will enable you to save 10-15%.

Dana was my consultant and is great at what she does.

I went to David's Bridal on Southside Blvd.  I went there thinking I wouldnt find anything (my first appt).  Christine (an older woman) was the one helping me and she was Amazing!! By my 10th dress.. I found The One!

Just go in with an open mind... just because you might not like it on the hanger doesnt mean you won't totally Love it on you!

Good luck and have Lots of fun!!!!

BTW David's Bridal allows you to take pics and if you don't bring shoes, they will let you try on a pair of theirs to get an idea of height.

Take a camera for sure! Also, I fell in love with 2 or 3 dresses before I really fell in love with my dress. SOOO, moral of the story, even if you think you found THE one, keep looking, you can always come back to it! And you only have one chance to try on all the wedding dresses you want!
