Unofficial RSVP for STDs, allowed?

FI and are planning a desintation wedding in Maui and we're sending STDs to a bunch of people that we would love to be there, but in reality we know most won't be able to go.  The number of people that DO come influences what we do for a reception though, so it'd be nice to know who is planning on coming. Is it bad to put a note in with the STDs to ask people to let us know if they think they can make it?

TIA!

  • I'm assuming these are all people you talk to on a regular basis, so why not just talk to them about it?
  • I did that, but phrased it more like, "if you plan on coming, make sure you give us your mailing address to send the invitation!"
  • Hi,
We are in a similar situation,
We both live in Switzerland - but I am canadian and he is swiss.  We will do our wedding next summer in Canada and have already put on our Save The Dates to RSVP by Feb 28th 2011 even though our wedding is July 14 2011.

This way we know who is flying over, and who to send the formal invites out to.
I know to many it may sound weird or "not proper "  but in our opinion its our wedding so anything we want, goes...

    Good luck :)

GreatB: This is confusing.  Didn't you send the STDs to their mailing address?  You mailed them something asking for their mailing address?

OP: I agree with the PP who said to maybe try to call those who you assume might come to your wedding and explain the situation and ask them their plans.  Because it is a destination wedding they will probably have some sort of idea if they are planning to attend or not.  However, I think it is appropriate to send the actual invites a bit earlier than usual for a destination wedding as well.

Ummmm, if you sent a save-the-date, you have an address for a wedding invitation. Also, you sent STDs for your appetizer-Sunday non-ceremony wedding across the country? ::side eye::

  • Did you email the STDs?

I would just call/email/talk to people and ask if they think they might be able to come.
