What is considered a "SO" -XP kind of

My mom's cousin's son is 13 year old, he has a girlfriend that he wants to bring. We are not having any kids and it took a huge push to even consider allowing my mom's cousins to bring their kids. They have not yet even received a save the date. Problem #1, I don't want these kids there, but I probably shouldn't split up the family, his sister is 18 or 19 years old. Since he is 13, do I need to let him bring his girlfriend?

  • Anyone under 18 can go on their parents' invitation so I don't think that you need to invite his girlfriend.

Also, he's 13.  Chances are good that he won't have a girlfriend by the time your invitations go out.

  • No.  Most people on here say 18.  My sister's wedding they made the cut off 21 I think.

  • no he does not need a date.

  • Definitely no date for a 13 year old, they are children.  Different if they were adults

  • We didn't include an SO for anyone still in high school. 13? No SO needed.
  • No. That's ridiculous.

I have to ask, did his mother ask you? If I had even been DATING at 13 my parents would have thought that was ridiculous. I can't believe his parents would think it was serious enough to be treated like an adult relationship. And I can't believe the girl's parents would let her go to someone's wedding as someone's date. This is just weird all around.

He asked then him mom asked about 10 seconds after him. Apparently they told her she could come on vacation with them when they come up for the wedding (they live out of state).

  • No, I don't think anyone still in high school or younger needs to be given a +1 for a wedding.
  • Definitely not.

And I'd be hardpressed to invite my 13-year-old's BF/GF with us on a family vacation. That seems to be a bit much.

I'd wait this one out.  If they're still together at that point in time and they bring her on their vacation, what are they going to do with her while their family's at your wedding?  It's not like they're going to leave a minor by herself in a different state from her family for a whole day.
