Flight booked and Hair and Make-up at MB

Hi everyone,
So VG and I have been making some progress on the wedding planning, or mostly him, to be more correct.  I booked my flight today which was some task considering they initially did not want to sell me two seats (one for me and one for my dress), but after talking to customer service at Southwest, I booked my seats.  Apparently, you just have to add XS to the end of your last name, which they usually only allow you to do "if you need the room due to weight or being in a cast."  I explained to them how I needed the room for my dress and after sometime on hold, it was ok'd :)
So now I am planning hair and make-up.  I plan on going to the salon at MB- the Robert Cromeans something.  Anyone have any experience there?  The wedding is at 4pm.  How long did it take to have an up-do done along with make-up in general?  How early in the day did you do it?  I want to have it done and then do a bridesmaid luncheon in my room, which means I will need a few hours before the wedding for lunch, getting the dress on, and pictures.

Thanks,
Jackie

They originally recommended me send it fed-ex or checking it.  I would have worried way too much to do that.  I have a thing about flying and I have gotten luggage "lost" en route before.  At least now, I don't have to worry.  Luckily, southwest flights are pretty reasonably priced. VG is flying on a different airline so he can have the internet and work.  My parents are going to fly with me to try to try to keep me sane.  .  I've been through two emergency landings- one where I had to "brace."  Cocktails usually help the anxiety.

I did not want to ship mine, nor did I want to check mine; I get being fearful about what would happen. The cost of sending the dress fully insured fedex 2-day is more than the cost of a ticket on southwest to Vegas.  Southwest is pretty cheap to Vegas if you haven't flown them before.  It has the secondary benefit of giving her piece of mind that someone in a fedex sorting depot somewhere didn't break the box in half or send it to Alaska, or that some dude in baggage handling under the plane stepped on it, and now we don't have to waste our time the day before the wedding getting a professional to steam it.  So if the choice is worry free bride, we save money, we save time or we spend more and waste a bunch of time, then yes, we're going to fly it.

The only reason she even mentioned it was in case someone else wanted to do the same thing and needed to know the secret code to use on southwest's website to get the extra seat.

I wouldn't have bought a seat for my dress, but I don't think I had quite the emotional attachment that some ladies have to their dress.  But I do understand piece of mind .... it's a high stress time and you don't want anything to send you into that panic zone.  Plus yeah, SW is cheap LOL

I just don't see the practicality side of it. I would not want to shuffle around an airport carrying my wedding dress (with no help from my FI). Then lug it through security and in and out of cabs. It will still get wrinkly.

Also, does Southwest still do no assign seating? Can you imagine the passengers asking if that seat is saved, and you have to say yes, for my dress.  hahahah

She'll be flying with her parents, brother, probably grandma and the casino is sending someone to deal with all the luggage, etc. so it will not be a big deal and no cabs.

She's just trying to figure out now if anyone's used the MB salon and the timing of all the hair and makeup type stuff; one area I can't help with lol.

I with bridejackie, my dress came in MONTHS early, so every single day... maybe a few times a day I make sure that the door is closed and the bag is zipped and everything is still in there. :) I am a little bit of a control freak though, I really dont think that I would be able to handle shipping something so important. Its not about the money at all.. but what would you do if your dress got lost or damaged?? You would have nothing to wear on your most special day..... that would realllly suck.

My surprise is that southwest would bug you if you want to buy an extra seat! If you are paying what does is matter what you put there???! Im glad you got it sorted out though :)

<div>This is the bottom line for me right here. The dress will be in a bag...not hanging with its train (assuming it has one) laid out. There will be folds/creases/wrinkles that are inevitably made in the dress regardless if it has its own seat or not. My opinion is that a seat just for a dress, absent the cost, seems ludicrous. I'm entitled to my opinion on this matter :)</div><div>
</div><div>I did not check my dress NOR did I ship it. I'm 100% with OP when it comes to not wanting to deal with the "what if's" when it comes to a dress not making it there/luggage getting lost, you name it. </div>

I don't think I could fathom spending $200 to fly my dress to Vegas when I don't plan on spending more than $500 on it.  I mean, I may as well spend $700 and carry it on.  My sister carried hers on and just laid it on top of the baggage.  It wasn't a big deal at all.  Oh and it did still get wrinkly in the bag because no matter what, the bag was not as long as the longest part of the dress.

I think there may be other alternatives out there for getting one's dress to Vegas.

I agree that I will still need to have the dress steamed despite how I get it there.
I didn't really intend my post to be about whether or not they would get an extra seat for their dress.  I was posting how someone else could do that on Southwest if they needed too. Of course, there are other alternatives to getting a wedding dress to Vegas, some cheaper and some more expensive.   This is best option for me and worth the money to me.   To each her own.

What I intended the post for was the salon at MB.  Anyone had any experience with getting hair and make-up done there?

Since you have 7 months, maybe you just contact them and talk to them about pricing, in-room work, schedules, etc. You are far enough out that perhaps you can create a package.

Also, prices may change in 7 months.

I think you should look into having your hair and makeup done by someone who can go to your room like glamsquad. That way you dont have to worry about running around on the day and you could still have your lnuch with your girls while you are getting ready. From what I hear they are super fast and do great work. They also have prices on their website.
