Hi everyone!
I usually post on the NC board. That is where I live. FI and I are planning on visiting N.O. for a couple days after the wedding. We are not taking a big honeymoon right away. Does anyone have any recs for what we should do and where we should eat while we are there? We will arrive on a thurs. afternoon(May 6) and be there probably until sat. morning. From there we are driving to Destin, FL to stay for a week with his extended family. Please help! I want to make the most of my couple days there.

Well, you will be here for the last weekend of Jazz Fest. So, check the line-up and see if there are any acts on Thurs/Fri you want to see. http://www.nojazzfest.com/

What kind of activities do you like to do when you are vacationing? Definitely take some time and explore the french quarter. If you enjoy history - the National World War II Museum & Theater is very nice. You should also take a ride on the St. Charles street car (I believe it is $1.25/person each way). It's a great way to see the majestic mansions on St. Charles. The Zoo, Aquarium, & Insectarium are all top notch! A ride on a paddle wheel boat on the Mississippi River is very nice - & they have dinner cruises which could be quite romantic. The New Orleans Museum of Art & Sculpture Garden are fantastic (located in City Park) - and the Botanical Gardens there a nice also.

If you want to do some things outside of the city - you could do a plantation or swamp tour. Both would be entertaining, and several different tour companies leave from the downtown/french quarter area.

Hi! I would take one day and go to the jazzfest, then one day I would take and just experience walking around and seeing all the different things in the french qtr. Wake up one morning and go get beignets and Morning Calls and then walk toward the french mkt and listen to the great jazz bands playing at the gazebo on the way. They have great little shops to go into along the way. I would recommend Cafe Giovani for dinner one night, it is a great Italian Rest with a romantic atmosphere.
