Input on weekend wedding food logistics...

Currently working on food logistics for a remote Idaho weekend wedding (idea is still in the mill).  Maybe 37 guests.  Town has 150 people (none of us are from here).  Think "family reunion + meeting of the families + Western vacation" with a wedding.

The town only has two restaurants.  Neither serve breakfast.  There are two little stores in town that offer groceries (cereal, fruit, yogurt, etc).  The cabins have fridge and the lodge rooms have kitchenettes.  Those that camp will have coolers usually.

Friday night - most people arrive Friday.  We'd serve dinner at a Welcome Picnic.  Maybe pizzas we bring in and cook in the oven (our ranch house, aka "wedding headquarters" has a fully equipped kitchen for our use only).  Estimate 3 people per large pizza =  12 to 13 pizzas?  Then add salad, drinks and dessert.

Saturday day, guests do breakfast and lunch on their own (restaurants do serve lunch).

Saturday night - (wedding reception) we hire a caterer to do a full on Dutch oven dinner.  Only a $100 travel fee (!) and prices are $15-19 per person depending on the meats you pick.
  • Hickory-smoked barbecued chicken
  • Hickory-smoked barbecued pork spare ribs
  • South-western chipotle beef chile
  • Dutch oven potatoes
  • California mixed green salad with your choice of dressing
  • Corn on the cob or veggie in season
  • Homemade rolls with sweet butter
  • Fresh Watermelon Juice and Lemonade
  • Peach Cobbler
Then we can add beer, maybe wine and cupcakes (I prefer cupcakes over cake).  We'll have to bring the cupcakes (and pizza) in from our town 2 hours away.

Sunday - guests on their own.

How does that sound?
Is it OK for guests to figure out their own breakfast?

Maybe could you provide muffins and coffee or something for breakfasts?  You could just get some pastries and muffins from Costco or a grocery and have them available in your house.  I don't think you ordinarily have to provide this stuff, I'm just a little worried about the lack of available options in the town.  Your two dinner ideas sound great.

I would also check in with the restaurants and general store to make sure they'll be open during the weekend you're planning on and see what their seating/feeding capacity is.  In a town of 150, 37 people all wanting to go eat at the diner at the same time is a lot.  Also, a small town general store probably does close down if the shopowner wants to go on vacation or something, and it would be unfortunate if that's where you were planning to suggest for breakfast supplies and they were closed.

I second Jessica's ideas about contacting the restaurants and providing muffins or something similar for breakfast for your guests.

Other than those suggestions, I think your wedding overall and menu ideas are great! Sounds like my kind of wedding- laid back and fun.
