Too Hot for Outdoors?

My wedding is set for June 4th of 2011.  I would love to have an outside ceremony, but an inside reception.  Will those thirty-ish minutes outside be too hot to handle?  We're thinking of setting the time at 5pm and the area is right off of a lake, so there's usually a breeze.  I don't want me and everyone else to be sweating buckets, but I love the idea of having the ceremony outdoors!  Any guidance?

  • Don't stress about it. People know how hot it gets in areas of the country depending on the month. If there is a breeze, and your ceremony is only 30 minutes, it should be fine.

Just make sure that in case of rain the venue can also be used for your ceremony. Mother nature often has her own ideas.

    Good luck.
  • We're having that issue as well. We're getting married in Merida, Mexico, which is friggin hot.

The wedding is in July, and we went to check some things at the venue last week. We were DYING of heat. So, we decided to push the ceremony back from 5:30 to 6:30 so it would be a bit cooler.

We're also going to have inexpensive personalized paper fans available for guests.

One popular idea is to have a creative ceremony program that doubles as a paper fan, so you don't have to pay for both programs AND fans.

    Good luck! :)

Our wedding is going to be in August (in Texas) at 4PM, which is normally at least 100 degrees. My fiance keeps teasing me about this because he said I'm going to melt in my dress, but I wanted to be married outdoors along the riverwalk :) We're also using the fan/program idea, here is a link to where we found ours. I think you will be fine as long as the ceremony isnt too long. http://www.beau-coup.com/wedding-program-fans.htm#ReviewHeader

  • I had an outdoor wedding in July. Normally it isn't that hot where I live but that week we had a heat wave and it was 98 degrees on the day of my wedding. at High friggin noon. It was hot. But we combated that by keeping the ceremony short and sweet, and we paid extra to have the venu put out cold bottles of water for the guests while they waited. The photographer found shady spots for our pictures and we survived. Hands down the water was the best thing that we did.

Something else to consider, because it was so hot, even with the air conditioning blasting, it was hot inside and our cake frosting actually started to melt. we had to do the cake cutting earlier than planned. So you might want to discuss this with your baker before hand.
  • thank you for all the recommendations!

  • Ours is set for June 18th, of 2011 and we are wanting the same, outdoor ceremony and indoor reception. we looked into the idea of tents, but they are pretty expensive in our area and to use them for 30 minutes just seem not practical. I love the idea of program/fan! and if you are wanting to DIY you could just use some thicker cardstock and it would be pretty well.  or you could just do the fan idea, sometimes you can get them really cheap! or make them! And if people are aware that there will be some time outside , they should dress appropriately! :) GL!!
