freaking out!!! St. Peter and Paul Brides--READ THIS!

okay soo i am going crazy! I'm getting married April 10th at St. Peter and Paul Church. I booked the date and time almost a year ago with one of the priests in my parish and he booked the ceremony for 2:00. So i call the church today to make sure we're in for 6:00 the night before for the rehearsal and everything and we were just going over the details and he says my ceremony is at 1:30!! so im like umm no my ceremony starts at 2. and he says that when they changed the saturday mass schedule from 4:30 to 4:00 they made it mandatory that all weddings must start no later than 1:30. well.. no one bothered to call me and tell me that when they made this change! So he says we can have it at 2:00 but everyone has to be out of the church by 3:30. I'm having a full mass and plan to do a receiving line and would like to do some family pictures in my church as well. and i do not want to be rushed on my wedding day!! and i would change the time to 1:30 but the invitations are done and all say 2:00.

So now i am freaking out and dont know what to do!! So if you are getting married at St. Peter and Paul Church..make sure you have the right ceremony time!! Because no one bothered to call me when they changed everything!

If your invites aren't sealed yet you could put an insert noting the ceremony time change, otherwise, you might have to choose between receiving line or formal pictures, because you probably won't have time for both IMO since you're doing a full mass.

Sorry you're going through this. We had issues with our church and almost had to change the entire location less than a month before the wedding. Good luck!

I've been to several weddings at the Basilica and it's my understanding that you are not allowed to have a receiving line or do pictures there. In fact because of how old the building and the artwork is there is no flash photography allowed, even by the professional photographer. They should have given you a list of rules when you signed up.

If it is too late to change your invitations, I think 1.5 hours is plenty of time for a full mass and receiving line. Also, do you really think they are going to be aggressive and kick you out at exactly 3:30? If you tell them you'll be out, but on the day of go back in at 3:30 to take your photos while they are setting up for the mass I really doubt you'll get in the way. 10 people taking photos is no big deal and not an inconvienence...as long as your entire guest list is already gone you should be fine.

It might be close but you should have time.  My mass is at 2:00 and I have to be out by 3:30 because my parish does confession before Saturday mass.  But I am not planning on doing a receiving line.

From the OP's bio, this is a church in Turnersville, not the Cathedral Bascilica of SS Peter and Paul in Center City.

My bad. I had never heard of it. I only thought there was one St. Peter and Paul.

Then I'd say skip the receiving line since you have to go around to tables at the reception anyway. get right back inside and tell your party and the photog not to dilly-dally.

We have to follow the same 1.5 hour rule so we're skipping the receiving line and making a list of the photos we want and who we want in them to help expedite the process.

I'd keep it at 2pm so I don't have to worry about the invites.

Can you do the pics before?  Have the church closed (not letting guests sit) up until 1:45, and just get there early to get some of the pics out of the way.

If this is not an option, I totally understand.  I'm waiting until the ceremony to see FI.  This is just the most reasonable way (in my head at least) to get everything done on your schedule.

thanks for all the suggestions!! i think what we're going to do is put an insert in the invitations saying its going to be at 1:30. my mom is very traditional and really wants there to be a receiving line so we're not skipping out on that. and i guess i would just rather be able to take my time and not be rushed.. thanks for the help!!

Are you doing the Catholic long mass or the short one? You can always switch to the short one!
