Irrational Fears

Since FFF is dying...what are your irrational fears? And I mean stuff that is truly irrational, not like being afraid of snakes or spiders or something.

I am absolutely terrified by those fortune teller machines that you see in arcades or fairs. You know, like in the movie Big? When they light up and move and then spit out a fortune. Omg they just absolutely haunt me. The show Big Brother had one in their last season in the house and when it lit up and talked, I wanted to cry.

  • Are you afraid of falling, Bay? I am always interested in knowing the reason behind irrational fears. Like my fear of fortune teller machines stems from me having this anticipation of it talking out of turn and being alive. Totally ridiculous but yeah.
    image
  • eeek that sounds terrible Rach. just the word "slicing" gives me the shivers.
    image
  • I am ridiculously scared of the child snatcher in 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.' Umm, hello, he is not REAL. Nor am I a child.

  • Creepers living in my attic.  In my old house, every once in a while I could swear I heard music from up there and was therefore convinced there was some stranger living up there and coming into my house when I was gone.  I'm also certain there are tiny cameras in the vents of every public bathroom I go in so I pick the stall with the most protection from it.

Clowns and baby dolls that appear too life-like.  I blame horror movies for both of those irrational fears.

  • Deathly afraid of slugs.  Which is completely irrational because they do nothing.  And I know that but it doesn't help the fear.

I don't really know how rational or irrational this is, but my friends tells me I'm nuts for it.  I watch way too much tv so I always think something bad is going to happen to me, so I'm always assessing the situation and looking for my way out or knowing exactly what I would do if something were to happen.  Like if someone broke into my house I have my escape plan.  Or if somebody came in with a gun when I was somewhere I would already have it planned out what I would do.  Same with driving and I'm constantly looking for my outs if a car were to flip or something.

  • Clowns.  They are all straight out of the movie It if you ask me.
  • Wow clearly I remember nothing from that movie Wally because I don't remember a child snatcher at all, haha.

    Ew tiny bathroom cameras! creepy.

<div>Haha add this to the list of things I think about too.  I also feel this same way about tunnels which are everwhere here.  And it kills me that so many people are afraid of them and so they slam on their brakes and crawl through them.  My thinking is to haul ass to get through it and out of there, not delay it and be in there as long as possible.</div>

My older cousin was walking on the sidewalk when he was 4 and it caved in on him. Like, just the regular ol' sidewalk, wasn't being worked on or anything. Terrifying.

  • Beachy- I do the same kind of stuff.  I'm incredibly paranoid.  I check all of my rooms and closets before sitting down when I get home.
  • TVs in dark rooms.  I know The Ring wasn't really that scary but the thought of my TV turning on and a little girl waiting in the living room to kill me freaks me out. When I was younger, I also had to walk through a long, dark hallway to get to my bedroom.  The 2 other rooms I would pass (also pitch dark) both had TVs in them.

  • Grasshoppers. And H just built a terrarium in the garage with monster grasshoppers. If they get out, I will die. They will find me, and kill me.

Going into the bank. I don't know why. I am always afraid I'll forget what I have to do and have a panic attack.

Being attacked by a sea monster. Like a legit sea monster, not a shark.
  • Brandi I agree with the clowns for the same exact reason.

My grandmother made these two dolls but they are really life like.  They used to creep the heck out of me when I would wake up in the middle of the night.

This.  I never stop in traffic undernearth them.  Can't handle it.  People probably think I'm nuts, but they can all lickadick for all I care.  I'm not sitting under that shiiit.

    Also, moths.

  • Nope Wally.

I always think cement is going to start pouring out of the shoot on cement trucks so I'll never drive behind them if possible.

Thanks LTB, that's exactly what I'll see next time I get on an escalator now.

  • If I'm driving on a bridge over water, I get a little panicky if I can actually SEE the water.  Not because I think the bridge will collapse, but rather that I will suddenly lose all sense--not to mention driving ability--and go straight off the side.
  • Do I smell CHILDREN?????

Toilets freak me out sometimes.  Only because I remember watching an episode of Rescue 9-1-1 as a child and there was a freaking Boa coiled up in someone's toilet.  Apparently it somehow squeezed itself up the pipes and everything from the sewer.  I always perform a snake check, especially if I know it might be awhile.

My good friend is like this too. He used to only go to the bank when I was working so that i could help him. This is more common than you might think though. I actually liked helping people who were unsure and needed help over people who were overly confident and thought they knew more than I did about the process.

  • Any of my extremities hanging over the edge of the bed.

Falling down stairs, but I blame that on the Exorcist. I just look down stairs and can imagine falling down them--my bones twinge and everything.

Speaking of The Exorcist, possession. I am deathly afraid of not being in control of myself.
  • Attic people
Being smushed between two semi trucks
    Butterflies
  • E.T.  Overpasses (I think that's more related to my fear of heights, though, rather than a fear of it breaking).  Looking out the window when it's dark outside but bright inside and you can't see anything.  I always feel like there's someone out there.

[QUOTE]Add me to the overpasses list too. And bridges. I have no problems driving over them even if they are super high, but getting stuck in traffic at the top of one and I'm fighting off a panic attack/the urge to black out. All I can think about is how the bridges can't be buitl to handle that kind of weight sitting still and then the creaking/groaning noises, then falling. I'm shuddering just typing it out.

<div>Well in this situation I would immediately roll down my windows and unbuckle my seatbelt.  Seat belts get stuck under water (at least on TV) and windows don't open til the pressure stabilizes.  So then when you hit the water you just climb out of the car.  </div><div>
</div><div>See, always thinking about it. </div>
