I was telling mom and gma about king cake...they were all...'what is that?'.  I couldn't REALLY tell them, because I only have a vague idea.

I told H I wanted to make a king cake. He was all whaaa????

and I said, I want to make a KING cake. He said whaaaa????

I said, I WANT TO MAKE A K.I.N.G. CAKE! And then he was all like, Oh.

I swear, this is his people's food, he should know what I am talking about. I haven't been able to locate the sprinkles I need to make this. I wanted to send one to NOLA.

I've only had this once and it was gross.  Are the real king cakes good?  Or is it just supposed to be a dry, flavorless mess of food coloring?

Min, North La is a bit different than South La. We do some things differently.

Thanks for thinking of me. I'll try to research where you can buy the purple/green/gold sprinkles.

I did find this with pics. She did a good job.

See, that's the thing. Zsa is right. People outside of greater New Orleans say they make King Cakes, but they LIE.  I wish I could send you all *real* king cakes, but they are like $50 after overnight shipping.

The best ones have cream cheese & fruit filling. Like an awesome danish covered in multicolored sugar. :)

So, Mrs.Conn, don't be too disappointed if this one sucks. Good King Cake significantly outside of NOLA is the exception, not the rule.

My parents are coming to visit this week and are bringing a real king cake. I am tray excited, even if it does mean complete obliteration of my WW efforts for the week.

DG, you are right, and I never buy them here.

    Mmmmm king cake!

Yes, the cream cheese ones are wonderful.  Also had a praline one as well although no technicolor sugar (picked up when at NOLA last year).  Soooo tasty.

I'm sure most of you saw this today, but for those who don't follow them, Cake Wrecks did King Cakes today.

Seriously, the baby in the cake is not that big of a deal. They had to start putting warnings on it when people got all lawsuit-crazy, and for adults who were eating king cakes for the first time.

Dammit, now I really want king cake.  Even if it looks like those cake wrecks cakes (which looks like most shipped king cakes I've seen :( )
