quasi-checks and mini vent

So I got a few things accomplished yesterday... ordered a bunch of samples for invites... should be getting them in the mail during the 1st full week of February... will decide which one to go with from there and order ASAP... (I was planning to order the actual invites yesterday, but didn't realize you generally order samples first)

Also, called my old church to request my Sacramental records to provide to the church where we're getting married... We're a "mixed couple" (I'm Catholic, he's non-denom Christian) so they need my records ASAP to ask the Church to ok our marriage.. such a process!!

As for the mini vent, I mentioned this on FB previously... best man has it in his head that the bachelor party should be the night before the wedding and we should move our rehearsal dinner to Thursday to accommodate... Luckily, FI understands this is not an option... but the best man is still pushing for this to happen and won't seem to let it go... FI suggested bachelor party on that Thursday instead, but BM is aggravated with that idea stating no one will be able to stay out late b/c they likely have to work the next day...

I'm happy FI and I are on the same page, but his BM is making FI stressed b/c he won't get off this idea... ugh.

  • Yay for the checks and I had no idea it's normal order samples before the whole package for invites! As for the parties ours will be 2 to 3 weeks before wedding and on a weekend. I would not want to be hungover at my wedding! Hope your Fi sticks to his guns!
  • Congrats on the checks!

Yeah glad your FI isn't budging, no way would you want to have it the night before!  Mine is going to be 2 months prior to the wedding, and FIs has not been planned yet.

  • Yeah mine is going to be in April... None of my BMs are local, so my MOH is planning the bachelorette party to be the same day as the bridal shower so that my girls won't have to travel more than necessary... they'll have the shower in the early afternoon and then we'll go have some fun in the evening!

I had been hoping the bachelor party would be similar (having it a month or so beforehand)... but the BM is out in LA (we're in MA) and he doesn't want to have to fly out to us more than once..... so... it is what it is, I guess....

  • Hey Jen, I have a question about the church. We are the same-me Catholic and FI is non-denom Christian. Are you able to get married in a Catholic Church? We were told he had to convert in order to get married in my church. So lucky!
  • My FI had a similar issue with his BM.  BM wanted to schedule the bachelor party around timing that was convenient for him and not my FI (very long and drama-filled story).  Luckily, my FI has other GM and close friends who took over and basically planned the whole thing around my FI's schedule.  Once plans had been figured out, an e-mail was sent to the boys and basically said this is what's happening.
  • Glad FI is on board!

I am really hoping the guys go out the Thursday night before, that way they will have no desire to go out the night before the wedding ;)

Yes, we're getting married in a Catholic Church... we had to "shop around" though... the priest at the church I belonged to my entire life wouldn't let us get married.. he's very strict and traditional... so we're getting married at a church in the next town over... the priest is younger... has been very open-minded through the whole process... isn't even making us promise to raise our kids Catholic as long as we promise to have a serious conversation about what faith is best to raise our children... so it really just depends on the church, unfortunately...

haha that's my hope too... I know FI will go home after the rehearsal and get a good night's sleep, but the groomsmen, who knows... maybe if they party Thursday night, they'll be more inclined to behave Friday night...

  • That's how it's always presented in movies :-P

I know FI's BM is planning his bachelor party to be early May when we're getting married the 25th.

  • Oh man. I think I replied on Fb, but now with your update I just have to add what an awful idea that would be. How does he think they will be able to stay up late the night before the wedding?!? So inconsiderate. I'm glad FI is on your side. Don't let him break!

  • Just wanted to chime in about the Catholic/non Catholic thing.

I am surprised that priests are saying no.  There is no doctrine, etc that refuses a Catholic from marrying a non Catholic.  There are just different preparation requirements and additional steps the couple needs to take.  Sorry to hear that you were refused.  :(

Also, Diva Jen - It is in the Catholic wedding vows it states "Will you accept children lovingly from God, and bring them up according to the law of Christ and His Church" so I find it surprising that the priest would say it was OK to raise your children another way considering you say right in your vows that you will.

I'm not trying to cause trouble, I guess just pointing out that if you are getting married in the Catholic church, there are certain things that you are agreeing to.  Make sure you review your vows and other portions of the Mass so you know what you are saying yes to.
