a New Yorker (Dolan) and a Bostonian (O'Malley) are on this list...but i doubt either will get it.

    I would LOVE to see Dolan as Pope, but I don't see it happenning.  Although honestly, I think we really do need him here in the US.

    That being said,  no one in a million years would have picked Karol Wojtila, so anything is possible.  :)

    There wont be a US Pope because the world sees us as too liberal which is a joke and I am pretty sure they will go with someone ultra consertive that isnt in such a non consertive country I am hoping it will just be someone good

    I adopted a cardinal! I got some italian guy I've never heard  of - the archbishop emeritus of milan? tettamanzi -in-neri -utzi or something. 

    I'm trying to remember this awesome comment that I read about one of the American papabiles. (argh, sorry, cant' even remember which one...) Something having to do with, "It won't matter that he's an American once they realize that he is pretty much 100% against everythign that America "stands for." (obviously, particularly in terms of morality.)

    My choice would be Leonardo Sandri, an Argentinian of italian ancestry who is Prefect of the Sacred Congregation of Eastern (Oriental) Churches. I have family members who are Eastern rite and it would a thrill for them to have a pope who really understands their culture.

    I'm hearing that oullette from Canada and ranjith from Sri Lanka are strong possibilities. I think both would be great. Actually ranjith would be kinda badass! I'm not hoping for Dolan to be chosen. There are better US cardinals to choose. My husband is traveling to Quebec this week so if they go with oullette, he might witness the reaction of the Canadians firsthand, which would be awesome!

    I was listening to RTE (Irish Broadcasting) via the Internet. One of the radio reporters from RTE was talking to a print journalist stationed in Rome.

    The print journalist said that two competitng factions are forming. One faction are the curialists, Vatican bureaucrats who fear change. Their preferred candidate is Cardinal Scherer of Brazil, a former Vatican bureaucrat

    The other faction is the reformers. Led by the Americans, this faction wants transparency at the Vatican, more colegality and consultation of the bishops. This faction is backing Cardinal Scola of Milan.

    Sylvia Poggoli of NPR, who is stationed in Rome, said that the rising star of the moment is the archbishop of Budapest, who is president of the European bishops conference.

    I'm also a fan of Tagle :)  I don't think that they'll go for an American pope, either... which is fine by me!  I'd like to keep our cardinals stateside.  Anyone sign up to get a text from PopeAlarm.com??  I'm totally a geek :)
