Alpine Grove reviews / other venue suggestions

Has anyone had their wedding at Alpine Grove in Hollis or been there for someone else's wedding or function?  I really like what I see on their website but am looking for any comments from people who have been there and can share their experiences.

Also any other venue suggestions in Southern NH or Northern MA for around 100 people?  Looking for ceremony and reception in one location, not too fancy (I know that's not a great description) and the smaller the price tag the better.  I love wood beams inside and an outside ceremony location, so if anything comes to mind please suggest it! Thanks :)

  • There's Shattuck Golf Club in Jaffrey, NH, Hidden Hills in Rindge, NH. I'm having my reception at Hidden Hills in their courtyard. It''s beautiful and they have decent prices.

  • I got married at the Granite Rose in Hampstead, NH back in August.  Our ceremony was in their Embassy Garden, which was AMAZING, and then our reception was in their Embassy room.  There are tons of windows that let in natural light and light wood as well.  Erin was my coordinator and Lauren was also there on my wedding day to help out.  I don't know what I would have done without them! They were so helpful! And their sales person, Nancy is great too.  They really will sit and talk to you and find out what you are looking for and try to help you make it happen. I can't say enough about them! :)

This sounds EXACTLY like the Shattuck Golf Club.  It is in Jaffrey, NH, an hour away from where we live in Nashua, but we LOVED it and don't regret it at all.  You should definitely check it out and their prices are very reasonable...and include the TAXES, (which most quotes don't).  Beautiful views of Mt. Monadnock from the outdoor stone terrace and tall wooden-beamed cathedral ceilings inside the ballroom.  The coordinator there is Donna Benoit--her number is:  (603) 532-4300 or (603) 878-2000.  Good luck!

  • The Mile Away Restaurant in Milford NH had everything I wanted for a small, rustic NH wedding, but they could only hold 100 people and I am having closer to 150.  I'm not sure if they can do the ceremony there though...

We have chosen the Bedford Village Inn instead, which is beautiful, but a little pricy..

    Good luck!
  • I went to look at Alpine Grove and I was disappointment when I went there.  The buildings on the outside seemed extremely run down.   The pavillion was a bit small and the dance area was outside on the porch.  Then the main hall was very dark and dreary.  One thing that turned me off from Alpine was that they do on average 8 weddings a day.  This seemed like a lot and I was a bit afraid that my wedding would not be personalized.

This is only my opinion and I think you should go look at it, you could feel a completly different way.

I ended up booking the Londonderry Country Club and so far I am beyond impressed with them and would highly recommend them!  Also, they are so reasonably priced. I am getting married on 10-20-12.
  • Thanks for your suggestions and tperkins for your review of Alpine Grove.  8 weddings a day?! How is that even possible?  I don't like the sounds of that either.  I hadn't really thought about if I wanted a place with only one wedding a day, but that might be something to add to my wish list for a location.
  • Zorvino vineyards sounds similar to what you're looking for and would be good to check out.

I'm having my reception at Alpine Grove. When we met with them, they stated they try to limit the number of weddings per day (i.e. the day we visited only had one wedding). I looked at Mile Away and Shattuck as well, but in terms of where my ceremony is Alpine Grove was the best.

I've also been to several functions at Alpine Grove and can state the food is good. If you want a rustic feel, go for it. I'm having a fall themed wedding so the grounds and buildings are great for photos.

I think a lot of what you want can be done by Alpine Grove, although I would second Mile Away as it was our second choice until we figured out it was too far from our ceremony site.

  • We looked at Alpine Grove and were going tp choose them until we came across Candia Woods Country Club.. Alpine Grove was nice but just seemed to be run down. I have been there for two family outings but it was in the summer so it was all done outside on the grounds.. Candia Woods is very nice and is not very pricey. The wedding planner is Christina she is super nice.

  • Choccovberry- I was in my best friends wedding that was at Candia woods and I absolutely loved it!  It was actually one of my top choices but my wedding was to big to be held there!  You will absolutely love it there!  Make sure you get the golf carts to take pictures on the course.

jsurette- A venue that only held one wedding a day was huge for me because I wouldnt be rushed and there would be more attention to detail.  Depending on where you are located I fell love with One Liberty Lane in Hampton, NH.  It was a great facility but it did not have our date open.  It is worth a shot to look at.
  • Thanks choccovberry and tperkins! Hampton and Candia are both actually closer to me than Hollis is so I will have to look into those places too.
  • We ended up really liking Alpine Grove but want to check out some other venues before deciding so I'm still on the hunt!
