Just Engaged and Proposals

Engagement Party

Hi everyone! So I just became engaged last week and it's already starting to become overwhelming haha. My Fiance and I were going to throw an enagement party...just something small, a back yard bbq at his house with close family and friends. But the cost of things just started to add up. My question is, do I need to have an engagement party?

Re: Engagement Party

  • You don't throw your own engagement party. Also everyone invited to the Eparty must be invited to the wedding. You do NOT need an eparty.

  • Ditto PP

If someone offers to throw you and Engagement party awesome. If not then don't worry about it you don't need one!

Just some general advice - only people invited to the wedding should be invited to pre-wedding parties (engagement parties, wedding showers, ect...)

  • You DONT throw your own engagment party. My sister (maid of honor) is planning an engagment party for us. With the help of my other 3 sisters they are planning something low key and fun inviting only my and my fiances families, bridal party, and close friends who will be coming to the wedding.
  • You don't need to have an egagement party

I didn't have one, MOH is throwing me bridal shower and bachelorette party. You shouldn't host your own pre-wedding parties
  • ditto the PPs who say you don't need one and you shouldn't throw one for yourself, anyway. :)
  • Ditto pp's. Don't throw your own e-party. I had never really heard of them until TK. They aren't necessary either, we didn't have one and I am not regretting it at all.
  • no one NEEDS an engagement party.  They are optional.  Most people don't have them.  Wait for someone to offer to throw it for you.  If not, you don't get one, and no one will think any less of you or your fiance. Plain and simple.
  • Thanks everyone...I was hearing from different people that I needed to have one, that it was wrong for me to not throw one blah blah blah....I don't know what the whole etiquette on that was. But it's not happening either way.

  • A few of my neighbors are throwing my FI and I an engagement party this weekend actually :-) I could live with or without an engagement party, it isn't an absolutely necessity. If someone wants to throw one for you- go for it! It isn't something you should throw for yourself.

  • To go against the grain of the general consensus of the Eparty. . .

My mom recently hosted a small, informal engagement party for us.  Due to my job, I live out of town from my close friends and family and an engagement party was a great way to see everyone and celebrate.  The engagement party was fantastic, and I would recommend having one.  It doesn't have to be elaborate or expensive, and it's a great way for families to get better acquainted with each other.
