Part if the reason H didnt want Ron Paul on the ticket, as much as he liked a lot of what he stood for, there were some things he just couldnt get behind.

Sometimes I feel like we weigh the options and pick the lesser of 2 evils, KWIM?

    Agreed.
  • For me it's either lesser of two evils, or better of two bullshits.

The church we went to in NC for a communion did a whole speech about what to vote on the whole marriage ammendment. It was so uncomfortable sitting there and listening.

Also uncomfortable? People saying, "Wow, I'm so glad they explained how we should vote so clearly! That helped me."

    No. Just no.

ETA: Brandi, what's the pork and football comment about?

  • Judge not, lest ye be judged?

And the stuff in the old testament about pork being unclean and not handling pigskin or something.

Get out of my head, will ya?
  • That some people say you have to believe in every specific thing from that religion to be that religion when they are hypocrites about other things.

As in: The bible says that we should not have man lay with man.  Well, the bible also says that we shouldn't eat pork, but we do.

It was more on the principal than the actual "things" if that makes sense.

I guess I just hate when people want to use the "it's a sin/against the teachings of the bible" card and then they go and do something that is also considered a sin/against the teachings of the bible.  KWIM?

<div>Yeah... I see what you're saying, but you specifically assigned that to Catholics.</div><div>
</div><div>Catholics aren't actually fundamentalists.  In fact, most Christians use New Testament teachings over Old Testament.  </div><div>
</div><div>But, I have no strength today for a religious debate, the heat has taken it out of me, so I'll leave it at that :)</div>

  • I guess that's just what you have to deal with when you work for a Catholic school.  I don't think it's right... but I wouldn't work for the school either.  Evolving was a great word to use when describing her views, OP.

<div>I have a very "catholic" friend who doesn't believe in homosexuality...I then pointed out to her that she has engaged in premarital sex and takes birth control, which are also against her faith.  She wasn't particularly fond of that argument and could only repeat "I just don't agree with it".  Well, I don't agree with people wearing flesh colored leggings, but I don't have much of a say in that either....</div><div>
</div><div>I don't really have a beef with the gal being fired for her thoughts, mostly because she a) shared them (so they were no longer just her thoughts) and b) worked for the catholic church which is still against gay marriage.  I have MORE of a problem with ANY church giving political advice to their parishoners, and especially children.  I think that crosses the line out of spiritual guidance in into politics, and IMHO deserves taxation.  If you want to remain a religious entity, fine.  Teach religion, and guide people spiritually.  If you want to start talking politics, then you're in a new position and deserve to be treated as such.  </div><div>
</div><div>But that's my opinion.  I like to believe in the whole "Teach your students to the best of your ability, and hope they'll make the right decisions when it counts".</div>
