i need advice :(

we are getting married in april in mexico but only our parents are coming (both sets of parents have been remarried- so 4 people on each side). we are having a an outdoor reception at my fiances father's house in june when the weather is nicer. we will be sending out invitations to the reception the week we leave for the wedding. is june too long to wait?
also, my sister has blabbed to me about a surprise bridal shower-which i dont think i really deserve-because we can only afford to have our parents come to our wedding. i dont think its fair that she invites my friends and cousins to a bridal shower for me if they arent going to be at the actual wedding. they will be invited to the reception though.
should i still make "favours" for the girls who show up to the reception that were at the shower? or just for the shower?

Re: i need advice :(

  • Will people know that you got married in April if you have an at home reception in June? IMO, that's a little long to wait but if that month works best for you and your future FIL then go for it.

Don't have an answer to the second part of your question, sorry.

  • on our inviations its going to say something like "we got hitched" on the front and then asking people to join us to celebrate our recent marriage on the inside.

I would make favors for both . IF they go to the shower then give the people at the shower a favor and then give them on at the "reception" . I wouldn't call it a reception if your doing it almost 2- 3 months after . I would write on the invite something like come to a party celebrating the marriage of Mr and Mrs . Doe on April 10 2011 or somethign liek that .

  • If you're having favors at the reception, they should be for all guests.  You won't be giving favors at your shower because you should have no part in planning aside from accepting or declining it and making sure the date works.  If there are favors at the shower, those are separate from wedding favors and would be given by those hosting the shower.  Favors are never necessary, though.
  • We're having our AHR in September for our wedding in April because it didn't work out to do it in May and we want to avoid the crowds on the beach.  I'm pretty sure that the invitations (which I really need to just design already) will just call it a "celebration" rather than a reception.

Agreed that you shouldn't be making favors for the shower period.  All the bride is supposed to do for the shower is show up.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • first, I don't think april to june is too long, if that is what you want.

second, your favors for a shower should have nothing to do with your favors for the reception.

finally, if you family/friends want to throw you a shower, just feel honored and thankful.  they are doing it because they love you and want to celebrate your wedding.

  • My friend got married on New Year's Eve in Texas and had a New Jersey reception 3 weeks later.  IMO June is a little long to have a reception, but you can call it a celebration.
