Minnesota-Minneapolis and St. Paul

Help and suggestions on Venue and everything else :)

I need help! Ok so I just got engaged planning on a sept 21st or 28th 2013 wedding. We are wanting to marry in the Cities, close to Oakdale if possible (not far from airport at least for the fact that we have a lot of family traveling in).
I live up North, and just moved here 1 1/2 years ago. I don't know the cities at all and would love advice from anyone :)

Are there any woodsy, resorts that do weddings in the area? If not I figured, now if not anyone have suggestions on hotels/resorts (we would love to have it mainly at one place to spend time with family) that are a good price (including room prices).
In a perfect world we would love one place that we could be indoors and outdoors if possible for fun games. That also isn't going to kill our budget.

Also advice on photographers and dj's and anything else would be great :)
Thanks,
Bride-To-Be in need

  • What's your budget and projected guest count? Those things will help us recommend better vendors for you :-)

You might want to check out Trellis in Stillwater, I think they only do ceremonies- but I could be wrong. Then a reception option could be the Historic Washington County Courthouse, also in Stillwater.

Most of the hotels by the airport have wedding packages like Embassy Suites, Hilton and I'm sure the new Radisson that's being built onto MOA will too.

  • thanks!! Ok budget for hopefully everything around 10k . I know i am at least expecting half of that to be towards the venue and food booze and taxes on that.
and guest list anywhere from 75-120
  • While I'm not personally a fan of the place, the Wildwood Inn/Machine Shed is right on the border of Woodbury and Oakdale and may have the "Feel" to it that you're looking for.  Not sure on the outside stuff but one of DH's friends had her wedding there a few years back.  There are a few hotel options in Woodbury close by.
  • The food at the Machine Shed is really good!!  I believe the hilton is across the street or at least near by.
  • I second the Wildwood. I went to a wedding there a few years ago and it was so much fun.

We also really liked Midwest Sound for a dj www.midwestsound.com and Elise with Elisabeth Ann Photography www.ElisabethAnnPhotography.com.

They are super affordable.  I am not having my reception there, but I know they have reception options.

    Anniversary wedding-1 my read shelf:
Heidi's book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • I second Midwest Sound. We are using them.

Our venue is the Embassy Suites Airpot location. Now we are not doing much alcohol and having under 100 people (its 100 max in the small ballroom) and it's somewhat around your budget. But it also depends on what food you choose.

I wanted to check out the Machine Shed because they have that Wildwood Inn Witty mentioned and the pix are so pretty, kinda the theme you are looking for, but after emailing twice, they never responded. So they were out!

We're having our reception at the Wildwood Lodge. It's got a very rustic/up at the cabin feel and is a fairly new hotel (7 years old?). We got a great deal because we booked while they were having a special. They do have the possibility to book mult weddings on the same day, though. The food is very reasonably priced, and is fantastic. I'd send their special events coordinatoror an email (Kathy: ksmith@hoari.com). Even without the deal we got, they're pretty affordable and the location is great, right off the freeway. We're also using Midwest sound for our dj and they've been to the wildwood lodge before, which is nice.

  • Shelby, funny you mentioned the embassy suites. I just looked into them yesterday. My fiance loves it but my only concern was price. Its great cause of how close it is to the airport and they offer shuttle. Are you having your ceremony there as well?

  • Thank you for your input. I know this one is in the air for us, the only reason the fiance isn't a fan is because the restaurant/bar isn't inside the hotel, and our families are known to get together prior to the day and hangout and drink lol.
But I've only seen pictures of the place, and that is where my question comes into I thought they only had one room, so how can they book more than one wedding?

  • Ok new question to go with this one. Has anyone had any reviews on the Country Inn and Suites in Woodbury?
I called yesterday because on their website they had a nice tent set up in their courtyard. Apparently they did that a long time ago but are remodeling the whole hotel. and now considering to doing tents in their courtyard again. (I find out today if they are going to)
but I wasn't sure if anyone has had a wedding or been to a wedding at this place before.
Thank you so much for everyone's responses its been sooo helpful :)

The bar and restaurant are connected to the hotel, it's just a short walk. They have multiple banquet spaces that range from 120-250. The 250 capacity is their largest room called the Pavilion and that is where most receptions are held. And the bar in the restaurant is actually right around the corner from the pavilion entrance. Their website is actually very brief in the beauty of the venue. If you're interested, start communications with them and they can set up a tour. I honestly was very hesitant on them (also had my heart set elsewhere) but I'm glad we went and had the tour and you can't really beat the location. I also know they offer a shuttle for a nominal fee but I'm not sure how far it goes.
