2 questions - re: Ceremony & Limos

Here are my next 2 pressing questions :-)

Did anyone get married at the same place where your reception was?
Did you have live music for your ceremony or did you have your DJ play?
What was your experience if your DJ played your music?

I'm a little nervous as we already put a deposit down w/ the DJ and while
I really don't mind having the DJ do what he does best - he said he'll be there in a tux to work it all out - my priest / reverand is a little against it. He's telling me I might want to rethink it? Then he told me he knew of a good Harpist <hmmm />
My brother is also in agreement w/ the priest...he said he never heard a DJ play for a ceremony ....but my feeling is -- he's mostly been to church weddings and not weddings that were in a chapel @ the reception hall where it was lasting a whole 30 minutes...What are your thoughts? I'm afraid I might regret it so I wanted your take on it.

2nd question....
Can anyone recco a good limo company?
If you can tell me what type of limo did you have...ie: stretch...hummer...pricing?
That would be great.

Thanks again for your help -
Lee

    I used Settembre Limos.

    10 passenger Mercedes Limo
    Rolls Royce
    5 hours

    Paid $1,440.

Limos were immaculate, Drivers were good, they knew where they were going, no one got lost.  We also used them for our airport pick up and drop off for the HM and again cars clean, drivers great and knew where to go, we just sat back.

we're getting married at the same place as our reception. outdoor ceremony, balcony cocktail hour, indoor reception.

we are having a harpist and cellist do our ceremony and cocktail hour, then the dj takes over for the reception.

i highly recommend silverstar limo. call and ask for freddy, he'll take good care of you :)

    Yes

I had a harpist...although our DJ said he would do it.  If you want a harpist, i HIGHLY recommend mine.  She was AMAZING!!!!!!  Who is your priest?  FUnny if the same priest and/or harpist

What was your experience if your DJ played your music?
    N/A

Limo:  We used Strathmore....we had a 10 passenger...picked up the guys and came back and got the girls so that we wouldn't have to pay for two and fit the 3 hour minimum.  Loved them

I went to a wedding where a harpist was humming the melody of what she was playing. You could totally hear it on the video and it was really weird... I am a little jealous that you can have a DJ at a chapel. I would fight for it... there are a lot of really amazing classical pieces that a DJ can play, and will probably cost less than the harpist or a trio...

My harpist definitely did not hum the music.  I ended up finding out that she has played at a ton of huge events in NYC, etc. and she was great...she invited me to her home to play for me and really took the time to get to know me and what type of music I liked.

We used silverstar limo and worked with Mario Jr.  We were extremely happy with the driver, the professionalism during the whole process, they arrived early.  Highly recommend

Thanks for your quick responses girls...I can't tell you what a relief it is to bounce things off on this board to all of you who are either going thru what I'm going thru or have been thru it.  I feel much better about my DJ sitch.

SSage - My priest is Father Rich Hasselbach - he's from Putnam Co.

As much as I may want to have live music - I continue to think its a 30min ceremony...I don't mind KennyG playing on a sound system. My friend recco'd our DJ so I'm confident he'll be on the money. I just want to make sure - I'm envisioning the right way.  I certainly don't want to come off as unclassy, non-elegant - since that is my goal but I have to draw the line somewhere. I also don't want to march down the aisle to a traditional song - nor do I want to march back to a traditional song. I picked the song by Kenny G "the Wedding Song" for me to come down the aisle to....and I sooooo want "What is Life" by George Harrison after we've been announced and walk back down the aisle. My girls I want them to walk down to 'Nadia's theme" I love the song I just hope everyone doesn't think of the soap opera - I've just always loved the song & I think its very classy. My memorial song to my Mom & Dad and my Fiance's Dad will be "The Prayer" all of which as you can see can be done by the DJ.  What do you think of my song choices? The only thing I may change is the song the girls are walking into -- I also like the song by Bach - I think its called "Air" ...what would you do? Nadia's theme or Air?

In terms of the Limo service - for those of you that had everything in the same place...How did you possibly guarantee 3hrs to the limo? Or you just paid for the 3hrs but didn't use it up? The hotel I'm staying at is about 15min away from where I'm getting married & having the reception...Once I'm there - the only other ride I'll need is back to the hotel later on & most likely the next day to wherever we're going ie: airport ...I guess I can always see if they'll work out a deal w/ me....What did you do?

Thanks again for all your iiput - I really appreciate it.

    -Lee

We are also having Father Rich marry us, and he recommended Joy to us.  She is INCREDIBLE!! We went to her house to pick out our music and she is so helpful.  She will send a CD to you if you ask.

I am having a band play, so I was looking for someone to play outside (because one of the band members is a family, I actually wanted him to SEE the ceremony, rather than figure out when to play etc).

You go with what you want.  You do have to ask the DJ can he move multiple places (ie ceremony, cocktail hr, reception) and make sure he can move in the time you need him too.

Wow it is a small world after all! Amazing that most of us are using Fr Rich.

I did check w/ my DJ -- he has a 3 sound system s that he can sets up in all 3  places. He has an assistant. So while he sets up for our ceremony the asst will be setting up for the cocktail hour and he said not to worry every thing will be set up for the reception. This is done early in the AM.  I guess in terms of the Harpist we'll have to go through our money situation and figure out if we can afford it? Again its nice to know that some of you are using the Harpist that Fr Rich reccod. I'll talk to my FI and see where we pan out. Thanks again for everything.

    -Lee
    p.s.
Steph (ssage) once i talk to my FI I'll shoot you an email if we do decide to go w/ the harpist. I'd love to hear about your experience w/ her.

Ladies....I cannot tell you how WONDERFUL Joy is!  I went to her house as well (no way FI was going) and she was so easy to speak with, pleasant and on the day of, was AMAZING.

I had always wanted something a little different for our ceremony...not a multi piece quartet, nor violin or organ type music.  I've always thought it was such a beautiful instrument, the harp, and it sounded amazing!  She will work with you on the songs, recommend songs if you need her to, just wonderful.  And yes, she will send you a cd, which i put on my ipod and listened to alot before making choices.

For those of you who have used the harpist. I was just wondering if you had any idea of what a ballpark cost would be? She sounds wonderful!
