Mmm. Tomato Soup Shooters with Mini Grilled Cheese

So I came across this idea not because it seems to becomming a new "it" item but rather looking for comfort foods done elegantly. I think it sounds so amazing but I have no idea what to pair with it. My uncle is my caterer (he does it professionally on the side) and is willing to try different things.

Originally I was going to go with the easy traditional (around here at least) mostacolli and house salad dinner but my parents think it sounds as appetizing as spagettios. They are paying quite a bit of the weddnig as a gift and are being great with letting us make all our own decisions except this.

We want comfort foods since it will be mid December and cold and probably icky out to extend the warmth of our love in the food. lol. Yea that sounds cheesy but its what we want. My parents want a rememorable meal that is elegant, so this is where I'm stuck.

Any ideas of comfort foods that can be done elegantly. We are looking for things that can be served in chaffing dishes so its not too much labor getting people their meals efficently.

I LOVE this idea! This is one of my favorite combos and it will be perfect (and so cute) for a winter weddding. Your guests will love it! Can I come?

I saw this post and got hungry! i would love this if i was having a winter wedding.  you can 'dress up' grilled cheese too.  gourmet cheeses and breads!  my in-laws always have crab cakes around the holidays.  we always had water chestnuts wrapped in bacon.  ive seen miniature quiche before. mac and cheese is making a comeback on the 'high end' side of things.

I recommend googling comfort gourmet hor douerves..  there are tons of ideas online.

    Good luck!

I went to a wedding that had comfort foods as their hor doueves and they were amazing! I have repeatedly told the bride that it was the best appetizers I have ever had. Here is what they had (she had a big budget so some of this won't work for yours) but everything was in tiny postions and so cute
mini grilled cheese and tomato soup
    potato pancakes
    shrimp cocktails
    mini quiches
    deviled eggs
    mac and cheese

Your mostacolli (sp?) sounds good too! Definitely do the comfort foods- it is very memorable!

I love the idea!  I'm tossing around the idea of using my grandmothers vichyssoise recipe in shooter glasses or demitasse cups.
No, that's not my real name. And FH's name isn't Nun (as in Nun ya bidness) either.

IT all sounds yummy!!  I love the idea.  My FI wouldn't go for it, he is pretty tradtional.  I also love the idea of a mashed potato martini bar.  The potatoes go into martini glasses and you get to top them with whatever you like!!  Awesome!

OMG thanks ladies, by the way, love the mashed bar in a martinee glass!!! Super cute. By the way, anyone thinking of doing the soup shooters by them selves, buy votive holders instead of shot glasses, they are very close to the same amount but waaay cheapers.

That sounds amazing, maybe you could add some other soups like chicken noodle. That would be amazing, but I'm not sure how that would work as a shooter. I would offer a few more things like mini pulled pork sandwiches or sliders too. I think you can definitely make it work.

You're very brave to have a wedding in December here! I went to one in January of last year (it happened to be the coldest day of the year) I felt so bad for everyone in the wedding party! Although, they had a tiered reception and we were only invited to the dance, so I didn't fell *too* bad for the bride and groom.

Incredibly good idea! FI and I are shooting for a venue that does sushi, mini hamburgers, mini empanadas, and mini pizzas for hors d'oeurves!

super awesome idea on the shooters and sammies. Be careful with the votives that they are safe for food. Another way to dress up the grilled cheese besides gourmet cheese is to add fresh tomato or some avocado. To dress up the soup, a fresh sprig of basil should do the trick.

mac and cheese is a great comfort food that can be easily dressed up with fancy cheese (try gruyere) or if it's budget-able, a little lobster or truffles mixed in. You can also do a mac-n-cheese bar like the potato one, where you provide some unique fixins for your guests to add to their mac and cheese.

You could also do fake beef wellington (or a unique take on it anyway) by stuffing pastry puffs with meatloaf. chicken pot pie tartlets? hmmm... if mine weren't going to be in may, I might steal your idea, combine with a few of mine, and go with it :-)

Bacon wrapped anything will be a hit with the guys (unless you hang out with vegetarians)

I love myrecipes.com for unique recipes, and you can type in "comfort food" into the search box, and find all kinds of ways to "dress up" old favorites... meatloaf in a mug, etc. I guess it all depends on if you're doing a full plated dinner or heavy appetizers.

    great, now I'm hungry :-)
