Wedding insurance for winter brides?

Have any of you researched and/or purchased wedding insurance?  I'm considering it just in case we get a bad storm here in Pennsylvania and we have to postpone the wedding b/c no one can get to the event.  We'll apparently get reimbursed the money we put out so we can put it towards another date.

  • Never heard of it but I am from NJ and my feelings are that the wedding will go on snowing or not!
  • I agree with Maria, however I'm still debating about getting it...say your florist or your DJ can't get to the venue, limo breaks down, you would be reimbursed for that. Also, God forbid, your card box or gifts get stolen, you get some coverage for that.  When we first got engaged, a little over a year ago, I was all for it and complety ready to get it...then comes the bills from all the vendors, and it all starts to add up and it's like, "eh, do i really need to spend another couple hundred?" haha, after all, NJ is quite good about clearing the main roads...

  • I am a nervous kind of person and really like to have back up and things like that.  And like Wagnerdi said it just comes as another expense. However i know my luck and if i dont have it something will happen and if i do have it i will be in the clear. So im still on the fence about it but think that right now its just an expense we cant fit in the already tight budget.

  • Yea we have a very tight budget as well! SO I know how that feels!
  • Its been on my mind quite a bit lately.  I'm quite nervous about having snow and no one getting to the wedding!  I have researched it.  One that covers cancellation which would be because of weather, ran around $400 for $200,000 of coverage. I think we will end up doing it just in case.  uggh!

  • Any company names anyone would recommend??? I don't know who is reputable.  My renter's insurance co, Erie, does not offer it.

  • we worked it into our contract with our venue. Since we are having the Ceremony there as well and are using their house florist and baker, in case of really bad weather (determined by the closure of the road leading up to the hall) we are garanteed the next date that the hall has available. so the only thing we would be responsible for is the dj and transportation.
