Has anyone met with the staff of or booked The Grove in Cedar Grove for their reception?  Feedback and pricing information would be very helpful!

My niece booked her wedding there for August, 2011 and I have another friend whose daughter booked for June, 2011. I think their prices are pretty much in line with similar venues. We haven't seen the completed building yet, but it looks like it will be beautiful and very top of the line.
I wish they would update their website, though.

This is a joke. and is making the mods look like fools.  I would avoid the place just because they don't want to PAY for marketing like every other place does.

Huh. The last thing New Jersey needs is yet another "very grand" venue.

I'm interested to see how it turns out, but I prefer not to hear about it from any plants, I mean, overly enthusiastic aunts.

I met with Linda and Michael. We just did a walk through and it's very close to being done. It is fabulous! We chose a Friday for our wedding, and we got pricing below $200 per person.

Is Il Tulipano 50$ per person? I looked around and didn't find any local venue at that price point.

     Hello,
Yes, The Grove just opened and it is a great place. There's still Outside Landscaping to be done and the old historic  Personette House it's being restaured as well.
I had the chance to shoot the location and did a small presentation Vidoe of it on youtube here: http://tinyurl.com/3dw8xoz
Also there's more photos of the place on my Flickr account for Now:

     Thanks,

Indeed - I clicked on that guy's links ... he has a domain at http://www.thegrovephotographer.com . Uh-huh. Nice Photoshop job on the homepage.

I really don't know why this venue (or people close to it) needs to resort to these antics. If it's to create buzz, that's really not necessary. I drove past it today, and it looks very nice (though, again, it doesn't seem to be bringing anything new to the table).

I haven't cracked open a local wedding magazine in a while, but hasn't The Grove been advertising? I could have sworn someone here said there was an ad featuring the sketches in one of them.

I'm not sure I follow here... because my niece and a friend of mine's daughter are both getting married here, I'm a "plant"???
Seriously, I was trying to be helpful. We looked at many places Il Tulipano being one of them and they were well over $100. I happened to like The Atrium, as did my niece's fiance, but she went with The Grove. We did a tour of the place when they still had cement floors and wooden doors where the real doors now are standing. The parking lot was a bunch of dirt and rocks and the "office" was set up in a trailer.
Why would someone make up a lie about a wedding being booked?
By the way, I just got the invite in the mail on Friday for the June 4th wedding!!
  • edited December 2011
I just called them, as I saw this place in a wedding mag. They claim the minimum amt of ppl for a Saturday evening wedding is 200. The cost per person is $139, plus 20% gratuity, and 7% sales tax. While I'm still going to check out the venue, I doubt I will use them based on a review that I saw on another website.

I has my wedding there this past Friday, September 30th. It was AMAZING!!! The beauty of the place speaks for itself, however the staff was over the top. They catered to my every need and went well above and beyond to make sure I was happy and all of my wants and needs were met. The food.....fantastic. Guests were approaching us all night just raving about how amazing all of the food was. I have never felt like more of a princess than I did on my wedding night and I have To thank The Grove for that!!! Words can't express my gratitude for Nat, Sue, Phil and the rest of the staff for making the day Spectacular!!!

Too bad the town shut them down and the poor brides are screwed because they couldn't get a handle on outdoor noise and parking issues.

Maria, I have a hard time believing you had your wedding there on Friday - I thought events at The Grove were suspended. ( http://www.northjersey.com/news/130628678_The_Grove_s_certificate_of_occupancy_is_revoked.html?mobile=1&c=y ) Then again, I can certainly see The Grove flouting the town's orders. Again.

My fiance and I met with Nat on Wednesday, September 28th. I instantly fell in love with the place, and probably would have even booked it if the general manager that we met with wasn't so rude. When we tried to talk to him about giving us a better price, he gave us a 20 minute lecture about his "reputation". We walked out of the meeting very frustrated with the experience.

I still though that this was one of the most beautiful places that I have seen and on Friday morning called and spoke with Linda. I told her that I had a really bad experience with Nat, and wanted to make another appointment with the other general manager, Michael. She said she will see what she can do and would call me back.

So I was expecting her call either Tuesday or Wednesday, and decided to look at reviews for the Grove. Not happy with what I am reading. And now I find out that all events are suspended???

Should I just forget about this place??

I don't fault you if you do. I admit that we took a chance on our venue (Orange Lawn Tennis Club). No one here knew of it, and there were no reviews on WeddingWire (until we wrote one).  But we had faith in it, based on their great-looking bar/bat mitzvahs and their affiliation, at the time, with a nationally renowned chef. We firmly believed they were a legit operation. And they delivered - and then some! But The Grove seemed questionable. I had a suspicion that they were pimping themselves on this board. It certainly wasn't because they were too cheap to pay for advertising, since they did have ads in the local wedding magazines. And there was their emphasis on opulence, when the trend in weddings today is lower-key affairs, and the way to stand out is to NOT look like you're just another Jersey wedding factory. I got the sense from them that they were Trying Too Hard. And when you're so focused on image, you tend to forget logistical issues, like parking and noise. I know new ventures often find themselves dealing with kinks. But getting shut down by the town isn't something that happens when you're finding your footing.

I recently booked the Grove for next year, and while yes they like to boast about themselves as an established group of professional in the wedding industry, they have to in order to prove themselves. And honestly, I think the space speaks for itself. I have one of the top wedding planners doing my party, and I chose this place over some beautiful venues in NYC and NJ, including the Venetian. My planner says I am his 4th party there in the next 2 years, and while some kinks need to be worked out, it is going to be the next "it" place for sure. I think you should stick with it, and try to meet with Michael- super nice guy.
