What are your table names?

We are having some trouble coming up with table names (instead of numbers) that aren't cheesy, too obscure or just plain boring. Are you using numbers or table names? If table names, what theme are you going with? Help us with some inspiration!

Re: What are your table names?

  • I'm just doing table numbers.  We are probably going to have around 20 tables, so it would be hard for us to come up with 20 different table names along the same there.  Also, doing names instead of numbers can make it tricky for guests to find the table if you have more than a handful of tables.  If you do use names, I would recommend giving each table both a name and a number so that guests can more easily locate their tables.
  • Hopefully this doesn't fall under the cheesy category..

We have a couple ideas, but haven't decided yet. We play a lot of board games together, so I wanted to name the tables after the games we play, and who the champion of each game was (ie:  Table Scrabble   Champion: Brooke). I think it's cute, he's not too keen on it..
Another idea was naming the tables after Disneyland rides, as we love Disneyland and is where we got engaged.

My friend, for her wedding, did movie titles of their favorite movies. Mind you they met at a movie theatre, so it also made sense for that.

  • At first we were thinking we would do table names of places we have been and then have a few pics of us at that location: for example, signature lounge in chicago, one of the many wineries, skiing in CO etc.

However, the more I thought about it, it seemed like a better idea to name the tables after wineries as our wedding is at a vineyard. So we will be using wine bottles of th winery that we will be naming the table after, make a slit in the cork and using cardstock and a printer make the table card with the name on it. Then using more wine corks (hot gluing 2 together and tying a ribbon in our colors around the wine corks) we will have a few sentences about the experience at that winery and using the same wine cork holders we will have several pics of us at that winery :)

I feel much better about the wine theme and it's fitting for us as a couple...maybe you can do something like that?

Maybe places you will go together on your honeymoon? places you've been? I love the game idea listed above, as well! Table names, I thought were a really fun part of the reception instead of just numbers, but those can look very classy as nice as well, we just decided adding a personal flair would be better for us!
  • FI and I love sports and we will be naming tables after sports arena's.  FI is very excited about this and has already given me table names and pictures he wants to use.
    Happy Planning!

  • We only had 10 guest tables so we were able to use names alone rather than combining names and numbers since the venue was so small.  We had an outdoor garden wedding so we named our tables after flowers related to love and friendship.

  • ditto pp who said to also use numbers.  The SOLE purpose of table numbers is to help your guests quickly and easily find their seats.  I'd be pretty annoyed if I were at a big wedding (over 12 tables) and had to wander around wondering if "Pirates of the Carribean" was closer to "Space Mountain" or closer to "Haunted Mansion".

I frankly find table names to be one of those things that's just kind of pretentious and AW-ish, but if you feel compelled to do it, fine.  But please, also add a number to the identifier as a courtesy to your guests.

  • Geez, Trix.  Everyone knows that Pirates is closer to Haunted Mansion. Space Mountain is on the complete other side of the park. Haven't you ever been to DW?  ;-)

We are having a nascar themed wedding.  So our tables will be named after tracks.  All the Sprint Cup tracks will be used plus a few Nationwide tracks.  IE: Daytona, Bristol, Talledega, Michigan and we are NOT using any table numbers.  I know many of  you will complain and yell at me for this but, we are NOT having a seating chart.  We are reserving a few tables for family and the wedding party.  Also we are having extra tables. My FH and I agree that the guests are adults and they can sit with who they want.  We are  not creating a kindergarten classroom.
  • Mrs.B-you made me laugh.  As a matter of fact, I WAS just at DW weekend before last.  In the Magic Kingdom.  =)

Um, and you didn't tell me ahead of time for a meet up?  :pouts:

Johnson - Trix is correct.  No need for table names if you're having open seating. If you don't care about the extra work and expense into table name holders and printouts, then that's your call. Just make sure you have several extra tables for overflow when 6 friends want to sit together and there aren't 6 seats left.  You end up having lots of empty chairs this way.  ETA: I just saw that you already said you will have extra tables.

  • It is part of the decor. They will be the centerpieces.  They are street signs.  And we will be giving away tickets to a race at the location we are having the ceremony and reception at.  We wil pull a track name out of a bag and that whole tabel will win tickets.

We don't live far from Daytona so we've taken in a few races. Can Mr. B and I come to your wedding, please?

  • Sure I would definetly invite ya but we are not getting married at Daytona.  We are getting married at the Iowa Speedway in Newton, IA.  That would be a long drive for ya! But hey if you still wanna come that's cool!
  • We used numbers because it was easier for guests to find their seats this way.  If we'd had a smaller wedding with maybe 6 tables or so we might have considered naming them.

Well, we've seen races at Daytona and one at Vegas so adding Newton would be cool. Now if I can just find someone getting married at Bristol.... <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />

  • Mrs. B

Actually we wanted to get mariied at Bristol. It is the first race we ever got to go to together (just the two of us)! We have been to plenty of tracks. Daytona, Talledega, Lowe's. Michigan, Bristol, Kansas, Chicagoland, Texas, etc.  Bristol night race has always been my favorite. Family favorite as a fact.  However, Most of our families could not get down there, not enough vacay, and his brother is getting married in Aug.  So Bristol was a nogo because his brother stole the night race date! Grrrr, oh well!
  • We are having tables named after places we have been together, and a picture of us together in that place. We have been on a few vacations, so we are including those places, but are also using our home towns, university, cabins and basically anywhere we have been together, with a picture to prove it. I didn't like the idea of numbering my tables because sometimes people get offended. I don't want my friends or family to think they were last on my list, just because they are sitting at the last numbered table. We plan to have a seating chart showing all the named tables in their positions in the room. Hopefully no one will be confused! :)
  • I've seen the "places we've been" table names at a couple of different places.  And I also know my cousin is doing the baby picture idea as well.  I really wanted to do something creative, but we are having close to 20 tables.  What I'm thinking about doing now is have the numbers, but then printed underneath each one will be a quote from Dave Matthews Band.  They are one of our favorite bands and spent our first weekends together at their concert.  I have a pretty primitive list right now, but might have to add some other artists like Jason Mraz and Jack Johnson.
  • We are doing things that mean a lot to us. We are big sports fans, and also travel a lot so we are incorporating those into our tables with a picture. Ex- Eagles, Phillies, Chicago, Boston with each table having a picture of us at a game or in that city :)
  • Fiance still can't decide....will keep you posted. I'm, leaning toward the typefaces... This might make you laugh though, in our brainstorming, these were ideas that were less than stellar Smile

    Nicknames we call the dog
Freeway exits to our fave places
    Different slang
Different people our bridal party has dated

    It just kept getting worse.......
