Thoughts on Pixie haircuts?

So apparently pixie haircuts (the really, REALLY short cropped hairstyles) are supposed to be "the" cut for summer.   I've seen it in magazines and notcied more than a few celebs lopping all their hair off.   What does everyone think about this?  Yay?  Nay?  Is it something you would ever do?

Also, polls.

Love them. NOT on me. They don't work with my face shape.

A good friend of mine just got her hair cut into a pixie and it looks fantastic.

  • These really only work on some people.  My co-worker has one and it's incredibly cute on her.  On me- it would look awful.  She's got a very angular, slim face; I have a chubby, round one.

  • Not for me at all.  My hair is curly and I'd hate to see what it would look like that short.

  • I personally hope that this doesn't catch on in the mainstream.  I think very few people look good with super short hair.  There's Poli and well..... thats about it.  :)

Gennifer Goodwinn is a celeb that has chopped and she looks really cute with it.  But others (that Hayden Pattisomething heros girl?) have followed suit and I think they look ridiculous.  Most people just look better with a little bit of length to their hair.

  • Ditto Kiki. I have a really round face. And really fine hair. So it would look flat, mannish, and... not at all cute on me. But I love the manageability of short hair and I love them on other people.

  • I'm tempted to do a drastic hair cut after the wedding.  FI loves my hair long and I like the long hair possibilities for the wedding hairstyle.  But I used to have short hair and I kind of miss it.
  • I'm so jealous of people that can pull them off because it looks so stinkin' easy and nice and cool (temp wise) for summer.  But I think it only works on very few people.  Halle Berry?  Yes.  Me?  Fat chance.

  • I had one years and years ago when it was popular years and years ago.  I wouldn't do it again though, I don't think it would be the same on me now that I'm older.

  • Whenever I think of short curly hair, I remember Keri Russel and how everyone freaked when she cut all of her hair off.  Ah, Felicity memories.

  • I had one when I was 12 or so. It was cute on me as long as I got regular haircuts. I also got mistaken for a boy a lot. A cute boy, though. I generally like the pixie cut.

  • I could never go that short. I would lose the ability to *hair flip*

  • I had one when I was in 7th grade and not well developed.  I got mistaken for a boy a few times.  Never.  Again.

I like it on the people who can pull it off.  I hate it on anyone else.  I think you need to have a very feminine face and even body type to pull it off.  Not necessarily curvy-feminine, but petite.

  • I wish I could do that, but it wouldn't work at all with my hair.  I'm with East, aside from Poli (and a friend of ours named Angie who has one and looks fantastic) I can't think of anybody off the top of my head that I've seen pull that off.

I take that back.  Halle Berry has one and looks amazing.  But that b*tch looks amazing in anything, so there's that.

  • My sister has cut her hair pixie short in the past couple years and she looks adorable. I, on the other hand, am afraid I would look like a boy with boobs.

  • Very few people look good with pixie cuts.  I'm another big curly-headed girl here, so no pixie for me.
  • My mom thought I looked adorable with a pixie when I was a kid, so every time she would take me to the salon I would end up with what I saw as a 'boy cut'. Never again.

  • Yeah, I'm too traumatized by my 6th grade year when everyone thought I was a boy.  And my boobs aren't really any bigger now than they were when I was 12 so I'd be worried I'd have the same problem.

  • I've got super short hair already, so I don't think I'd go any shorter. My bangs don't even touch my eyebrows and my ears are cut out.

  • I tried to find a pic of me with my pixie cut but it's on FB and I can't access that at work.

  • I've done the really, REALLY short haircut. The pics of me in my bio are of it a decent amount longer. If you get the cut done right, it's AMAZING. I've also had less skilled hairstylists who have made me look like a 12-year-old boy. My hair is chin-length now, and I sort of miss it. I feel like I'll chop again sometime!
  • If i have time later, I'll have to play around with the "How would I look with this hairstyle?" page on instyle.com.  It is pretty funny.

  • LOVE it on poli and astrid kirchherr:

  • i'm not finding any photos of hayden paniblahblah with a pixie - only with a bob. anyone?
  • I also think you need to be trendy to pull this look off.  You can't rock that haircut wearing american eagle or lands end.

  • Honestly, I think it would work on me, and I've been tempted for the past two summers, but I don't want to deal with the growing out phase. Plus if I'm wrong and it would look bad, I'd be screwed.
  • I want the pixie cut so bad, but I'm really sure it wouldn't look right on me.  That kind of cut needs hair with texture, something which my hair is seriously lacking.
