How many of you are hiring a videographer??

I am wondering if we want to, its probably expensive and I dont know how often we would watch the video.

We are not hiring one - our ceremony will be super short and we both agree we wouldn't watch it and would prefer to spend the money on other things. Some people love their videos though, so it just depends!

I had originally booked one, but then when we had to change our date the videographer couldn't work our new date and graciously refunded our deposit.

The more we thought about it, the more we wanted to use that money toward something else. I can't imagine your wedding video is something you watch every day, whereas pictures for example, you'd for sure have a few blown up and framed in your house that you'll see every day. I'd invest more into something like that than a video that'll be in storage most of the time.

It never hurts to watch samples on videographers' website and see if it's something you want or not.

We are not going with a videographer because we don't feel we'd ever watch the video. As someone else mentioned I'd much rather have nice photographs. Just not important to us.

It is hard to know if I truly would have regretted not booking one since I ended up with a videographer. I booked with Jason of Capture the Moments. I was able to get a very affordable package. I love being able to watch it back now because it flew by so fast and preserving the memories of sound and motion was totally worth the money for me.

You can get documentary style video for as little as $500-$600, I found lots of videographers in this range on craigslist. The bottom price I found on cinematic style (edited more to be like a movie and tell a story versus just filiming and editing out parts) was $1000.

I booked Jason at Memories in Motion. Cinematic style video. All day coverage for less than $1500. I think the video is what will allow future generations to really get the feeling for what the day was like. I consider the photos to be more fine art, wall coverings. Because I am doing video, I needed to book less time with the photographer--only the videographer will be covering the "getting ready" part.

We booked one, the main reason is that I know I'll have tunnel vision on that day and I want to have a chance to see how everything came together. I really don't think it will be something that we'll watch often, maybe show it to some friends or reletives who couldn't come but that's about it.

We are going with Brady from Highlights video. He was highly recommended on here and his sample videos are great. We are getting ceremony and reception coverage.

We live in Philly but hare having the wedding in MN, and we know a lot of his family won't be able to make it, so we wanted to have video so we can show clips at the party his parents are hosting for us back here in Philly.

Also, after seeing a friend's video after being at her wedding this past summer, I was completely sold on getting a video. His facial expressions when seeing her for the first time, and her facial expressions while they are taking pictures and being cute together - there are just some things that you can't capture in pictures.

This reasoning would DEFINITELY justify doing a wedding video.

We weren't going to hire one origionally because we just didn't have room in our budget for it. But FI's uncle has offered to do it for free. (He is a wedding videographer) I am glad he offered to do it for us because I will love being able to re watch down the road with my FI and like a PP said, the day goes by so fast, so it will be nice to be able to really re live the moments through the video.

I watch mine once a year probably but I wouldn't have traded that option for the world. There are so many things that pass by you during the day that you just don't remember. I like having both fantastic pics and also the vide of the day.

Biggest regret that I didn't have one. I think of how much I'd love to watch the video and have well wishes taped from my grandmother and others who are no longer alive. It's an amazing gift to have video of family members and friends for a lifetime.

We just had my BIL film it using H's camera. It has been 7 mo and we still have not watched the video. We will probably end up waiting for our 1 year. So glad we didn't spring for it-- the money was so much better used on our honeymoon!

I agree with PP -- see if you have a friend or relative with a videorecorder or camera who wouldn't mind filming for you. I don't think it's worth paying for, but I did watch the video (just to see how it turned out), and I'm glad we did it. Even though you won't look at it as much as the pictures, at least its there if you ever want it. My uncle ended up doing ours, and he also videotaped portions of the reception, which turned out to be the best part of the DVD! It's hilarious to be able to watch our guests doing the YMCA or a conga line. Think outside the box...is there anything else you really want filmed besides just the ceremony? First dances? Toasts?

I am! Just to see all the family members that were there especially grandparents and to see all the moments that I will miss during the day like FI getting ready and family getting ready and just because I hear it absolutely flys by. I went with Capture the Moments for I think $600 and he will be there all day following us aroud and at the reception.
