Questions

My fiancee and I are getting married next April, and meeting with our pastor for the first time this April. What are some questions that I should ask him? We won't be doing our premarital classes for another 6-7 months, but I still want to get to know him and have him get to know us first.

Re: Questions

  • I'd ask him if there are any marriage prep books he suggests you read or if there are things you should be thinking about between now and when you start your marriage prep class to get the most out of it?

I would ask your pastor about the ceremony. I was very shocked when I learned, just a few weeks ago that my Pastor does not allow people to stand when the Bride walks down the aisle. He believes that people should only stand for God. I wish I had known that when we booked our church.

Will your Pastor allow readings that aren't from the bible? What about music? Can your postlude be a beatles song? Do you want communion to be a part of your service? Will the pastor include communion? We didn't have to pay to get married at our church if we were members. So we asked what it took to become a member.

All of this.  Ask any question you may have about your ceremony, and tell him what you want out of it.  Make sure before you leave you have a way to get in contact with him about any questions you might have later on.  Other things, if you plan on using rose petals, some churches require them to be fake, some require an aisle runner, etc.  Some churches don't allow any kind of rice, confetti, etc for when you leave the church.
