April wedding... snow or no snow??

It's one of those months, April.  I'd love a barn wedding with a spring-y feel to it, but also a lodge-y homey feel if it is snowing.. but how to plan/differentiate all these things into knowing what Buffalo weather is like? Between now and this upcoming april, I'm hoping to have my venue picked and one down payment. Problem is, I have no idea where to even begin :/  everything when I look up spring wedding, is green grass, shorter dresses, etc.  But in buffalo, there could be 2 feet of snow... So then I look at winter weddings and have a spring-y feel in mind, but meshing the two together seems... hard... I know no pearl street, lucarellis, samuels, or any place that has a lot of traffic around it... bahhh the wonders of stressing yourself out early! haha :) Any ideas?? Thanks!!

What about May...unless is there a reason you're set on April?

I wouldn't do early April, it's too volitile.

I picked late October and I'm worried about snow!  We considered November, but thought it would be too risky to have snow and settled on late October.  There still could be snow, but it probably won't be that much snow by that point. So I totally get what you're feeling about April!

That's the thing with Buffalo, you don't and won't know what the weather is like until that day. (it's a curse, I swear!) Even the month of October is tricky - I remember last year when I had my BS (we had an original date of 1/15/11 -- damn military!) on 10/10/10 the high was only supposed to get into the low 50s but it ended up being in the high 60s that day!

One thing is for sure, February, March and some of April can be horrible! (January can have it's moments but last years wasn't too bad, that I can remember.) I think your best bet would be to try for the end of April (as the soonest) and into May. It has snowed here in May before but during that time the ground usually isn't cold enough for it to stick anymore, it's really just a nuisance.

I wouldn't let what the weather could possibly be like on your day dictate how you decorate. You could always opt to keep it simple and classic but incorporate springy colors?

What about venturing more into the suburbs for your venue? Are you thinking of having the ceremony at a church/place of worship or an all inclusive ceremony/reception site? There's many possibilities :)

I'm in the same boat.  We're getting married 4/21/12.  Have to do April so there's enough time to get the right name on my degree...  My suggestion is find someplace that has the option of a 'bad weather' alternative.  A lot of places have an outdoor gazebo or similar that you can use if the weather is good, but also a patio or inside room (or even the reception room with some transformation if you're going for reception and ceremony at the same place) in case of bad weather.

April's our month, so it's staying in april :)  I didn't think of an alternative "bad weather room" that places might have.  That's definitely something I have to look more into! I'm already living in the southtowns, and am considering looking into amvets posts, or lodges, etc.  But hopefully I can find a good place with an alternative bad weather setting :)

What about the Botanical Gardens?  That way you would be inside, but would still have the "spring" feel.
But you are right, you could have a beautiful day in April or a cold, snowy one...you just never know around here!

We're getting married on 4/28/12. We're doing our reception in the courtyard at the Millennium Hotel to get the outdoor feel but with the festivities indoors.

How about the TImberlodge at Arrowhead or the Lodge at Hidden Valley?  The Timberlodge has really nice outdoor options but would be a beautiful timber frame reception hall for bad weather.  The Lodge at Hidden Valley is another very large timber frame building.  Unfortunately the one was too small for my reception and the other was just too far out on 20A (Varysburg) to risk it for a February wedding.  Would have loved either venue though.

April can go either way.  I picked Feb because at least I KNOW it will be cold and we'll want to be indoors.  :)

I actually looked at both Timberlogde-too far north, and Varysburg-People up in Amherst/Cheektowaga will be too far, especially if there's snow out there... hills, drifts, eek! I absolutely LOVED Hidden Valley.  I believe that's where my shower's being planned :) I've been looking, and finding that country clubs are also a great thing, as well! I'm hoping I'll hear back from a few places soon!!!
