Important warning!! Do not order invitations from Notfromabox.com!!

Do not order invitations from them! I am three months away from my wedding and added content for my invitations on www.notfromabox.com. It requires you put in a credit card to submit the order. I stated in the special instructions to not place the order without confirmation from me. Britta and Amy sent over the proof, I responded immediately saying I didn't like it and to contact me - 8 days later I heard nothing back and didn't even know the office was closed. I contacted them today and said to cancel my order, Britta said there would be no refund! Are you kidding me?! I put in the order just to get the process started, but didn't want to order anything. Oh, sorry, its on the website for no returns, well stupid, are we supposed to look at the return policy for every website? It should have a pop up or a note before you hit the submit button. How can these people be in business? Now I have to fight them to get my $949 back!

Um. you spend 1K on wedding invites?

Also, I don't know why you're surprised you had to put in a credit card to submit the order, have you never shopped online before?

Finally, they have amazing reviews so I'm not sure exactly where your's went wrong. I'm sorry you had this experience, but honestly, you just don't sound very aware of online shopping.

Why yes, yes we should. You should always look at the return policies when ordering something. Sorry but you are going to have to eat the cost and you really shouldn't be bashing this company. I don't see where they did anything wrong.

You submitted an order that you didn't want to order?  Then why did you order?  No no no, you don't get a refund, especially since the return policy says no returns.  It doesn't matter if you read the return policies (which you should anyway) they're still the policies.  They hold whether you read them or not!

To be honest, I didn't look at their site and I'm not anywhere close to sending out my invitiations, so this might be something I don't have as much experience with. Anytime you put in your credit card info, you should definitely read the return policy because that basically places your order. If they have a "no returns" policy, you probably aren't getting your money back. Since they sent you a proof and you didn't like it, is there any way you can make changes to your proof so you are happy with it? If not, you might just have to eat the cost. Some websites will let you request a free sample to be sent to you, but it won't be customized with your information. We have done that for save-the-date samples to see what it looks like if that helps you in the future.

You placed an order, but you didn't really want to place it?  I'm a little bit confused...

You mentioned a proof.  Did you place the order before or after you saw the proof?  Don't you have to approve the proof for the order to be processed?

Would you please clarify the order of events?

Expat, looks like the website says the proof has to get approved before the order is placed, so not sure what this chick did.

You placed an order but didn't want to place an order?  Do you not understand the concept of how ordering works?

And yes, you should look at the return policy on every site before you order off it, so things like this don't happen.

The problem here is not the website, dear.

One thing I can say is thank you for posting this rant, because they look like they have amazing products. Just what I was looking for.

    Now..

Yes, you should read the policies and fine print from every website that you intend to make a purchase from, especially a rather larger purchase such as $1000. That is your responsibility as a consumer.

When you press the automated submit button on ANY website, you are by law immediately authorizing that payment. By pressing that button, you are committed to the purchase amount, you cannot write it in the notes and expect it not to count.

I am not sure why you would enter CC information to get the process started when they have a button to request a quote and request samples/ proofs and things like that.

Bottom line, you made a very large and rather idiotic mistake. Your best course of action is to work with them to redesign a proof you can live with, since you have already paid for it. They DO NOT have to give you the money back. You don't have a leg to stand on. Make the most of it, the invitations look beautiful albeit pricey, and learn for next time to read carefully before you buy, and realize that pressing the submit button in cyberspace is the same as swiping your card in a store. You are legally committed to the purchase by doing that.

I am having the "if you are old enough to get married you are old enough to pay for it" that someone said yesterday flash in my head....but instead with "if you are dumb enough to enter your cc info and click the submit button, you deserve to get your money taken".

While it sucks that this happened....you have no one to blame but yourself.

You spent $1,000 without reading their return/cancellation policy??  Sorry, but your rant is unwarranted.  You are in the wrong, and ordered according to their policies.

BTW - $1,000 for invites is a little much, don't you think?

Nothing wrong with the website here dear.

Are you aware that the payment features on most websites is automated?  Meaning, when you put in the CC number and hit "Submit", a computer program is run that processes your CC purchase, with no human intervention?  So, when random person got your "special instructions" to not process the order yet, it had already gone through the CC company days before.  So, you're in the wrong here.

What did you not like about the proof?  Why can't they adjust things to make them better?  Why didn't you get a proof BEFORE placing the $1k order?

And yes, you ABSOLUTELY read the return policies before purchasing anything.  Especially for something like invitations, which is personalized just for you and doesn't work for anyone else.

Sorry, you made a $1k mistake.  Try not to make it again.

I love the Knot, but wow, why can't we try to help each more than just insult them and gang up on them? I know it's easier to insult someone over the internet instead of face to face, but seriously, these message boards are meant to be helpful and supportive, not a chance to pick on other brides. It's nobody's business than hers how much she is spending on invites. This is why I usually stick to my local board.

I will try to be helpful. On their website they say they will do two edits for free. Try doing those edits first to see if you get a product that you are happy with. It says that after the first two edits, any additional edits are $15. Since you aren't likely to get your money back, maybe paying for some additional edits would be worth it if you can end up with an invite you're happy with. It sounds like they get good reviews here, so hopefully they should be interested in making you a product you will like. If after a few edits the invites still aren't to your liking, then discuss your disapointment further with them. Maybe when doing the edits you could point out specific examples of what you do like? Specific colors, patterns, styles, fonts, etc. Since they don't seem likely to refund your order, I would try my best to work with them as politely and professionaly as possible. If after all of that you really don't think they are providing quality work, then express that to them and see what they can do to satisfy you. I hope that helps. Good luck!

I don't understand why they can't just edit the invitation to your standards, re-send a proof and then proceed with the order.  Why isn't that a solution?

Actually, if someone I knew told me that story, I would call them idiotic to their face, because not reading the return policy and authorizing a payment with instructions not to process the payment yet is idiocy on an epic level.

It's 2010.  If you haven't mastered the basics of online shopping by now, you deserve to have your computer taken away.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Pretty much anything that is personalized will be non-refundable.  I mean, it's not like they can take your invites back and resell them once they have your info on there.  Sorry you had to learn such an expensive lesson.

Why on EARTH does anyone think it's not their responsibility as a consumer to seek out and read any store's return policy?

We have restrictions on returns for a reason. It protects the store! Where I work, we don't accept returns after 60 days, we don't accept returns without a receipt, we don't accept returns on anything on sale, on clearance or on Holiday merchandise after the holiday. Any return made that qualifies (within 60 days, with ORIGINAL receipt) must be in good condition for resale. If it wasn't broken when we sold it, but it's broken now (frame, glass, etc.), you don't get to return it.

All of this protects the store. Whether you take the time to read the policy or not, it's STILL IN PLACE.

Lesson to learn: Always read the fine print.
