Reception entertainment? Band, Dancers...?

Hello ladies,

my FI and I are debating what kind of entertainment we should get for our reception?

We thought having a DJ or Band is nice, but too ordinary. We are trying to find other options to make our wedding reception more unique and entertaining. I brought up the idea of having hawaiian performers (our honeymoon will be in Hawaii) for our reception, but he thought it was too cheesy. Any ideas?

thank you!

I actually went to an Ethiopian wedding last year.  The groom was Ethiopian, and his aunts (who raised him) surprised him with traditional Ethiopian dnacers.  It was very different, but a lot of fun.  By the end of the wedding, everybody was joining in with the dancing, including my 3 yr old cousin.

I've seen Mummers at weddings and the Phanatic (he dances!).

I wanted to get a good latin band for my wedding, but the cost was just too much.

If you want a particular type of dance, you can look into dance studios, community/cultural centers and local arts schools to inquire about something like that.

I will say that they also had a DJ.... but about every 30 minutes or so, the dancers would come in and do another traditional dance.

One of my friends booked an 80s band based out of Atlanta (cost wasn't too bad for a band ...i think around $5k?)  They were AWESOME!!
