NWR - Date Night

Am I crazy? Me and FI are going on a "date" tonight and I'm sooo excited. We rarely go out somewhere alone so I always get so giddy. I'm such a loser. Maybe it's because we went from friends to a couple and never really had the "dating" phase...Anyways, we're just going to go eat at Olive Garden because I have an unused gift card that was a grad gift, and we said we would go once he passed his state insurance exam (which he did last Saturday-first try, he's so smart!).

Anybody else get like this?

Tomorrow is my grandma's auction...kinda sad but I won't not go. I'm hoping to get something that reminds me of her - her rocking chair would be great but I bet there will be a lot of bidding on it (I think there are about 23 grandkids total!).

Tomorrow is also our college homecoming (I'm making FI miss some of the festivities for the auction-breakfast, parade, game, and all-day bar hopping). Our co-ed fraternity always has a dance the night of homecoming and this year its halloween theme - I'm going to be a french maid (boring) and he doesn't wanna dress up (even more boring).

Not much going on Sunday that I know of.

Anybody else have any special weekend plans?

  • Sounds like a busy weekend.Tonight we have a date... with our couch. I know that doesn't sound exciting, but I m loving this plan. We went car shopping every night this week and haven't had any down time. The idea of chillaxin on the couch together, eating kabobs, snuggling, and watching TV sounds like heaven tonight. Plus, DS is going on a Gettysburg battlefield ghost tour tonight with my parents, so we get some alone time.

Tomorrow morning we have our last venue to visit. My perfect one came in on budget, so I'm pretty sure I know which one we are going with, but we already have the appointment and I do like the venue, so..... yeah. Tomorrow afternoon we are going to hang out with my brother and SIL. And then tomorrow night J may be going to a party without me. I just don't feel like I''ve had enough time with DS lately, so I don't want to be gone from him for another evening.

J has a class on Sunday, so he'll be gone all day. I think that's a good time for a mani/pedi and cleaning the house while DS rakes the lawn. Mundane is good.
  • The FI's BM and his GF are coming over tonight. We have double date nights all the time. The boys talk about phones and whatever it is boys talk about and we get to talk about weddings! My fav!

Saturday we have the Mutt Strut. Its a charity for PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society) where everyone brings their dogs dressed up and "strut" them.
Then a birthday party for FI great great aunt. Then a house warming/ Halloween Party.

Sunday our friends have a White Trash Party. Not sure if we are going yet. Last year I got in a HUGE fight with my old roommate because she hates that I am in a serious relationship (she was my BFF in college and she and I went through our wild phase together, she just never grew out of it) and I dont really want to see her again/ be reminded of that. So if not we will just pass out candy to the kids in our neighborhood!

  • We might go on a date tonight but I'm not feeling too well & have to go to work so we'll see, if we don't go on a date we will just watch movies at home.

This weekend we have an appointment with the caterer & the decorator. I'm super excited :)

  • every other week, we try and do a double date night with friends of ours (the couple that got married last month).  Haven't done one for awhile because money is tight for Vhati and I right now, but he got paid today, and found out he got a raise (yay for him!!!!)

  • We are doing a hockey night tonight with a friend!  A couple of my girlfriends and I get together on some Friday nights for drinks after work.  The one friend might not be able to make, so with FI's suggestion, tonight might go from girls night to hockey night.

FI has to work all weekend, so tomorrow I am spending it with my parents and one of my dad's cousins.  We are going to area cemetaries to see family headstones.  My dad has never seen his paternal grandfather's headstone, so we get to go find it tomorrow.  How fitting to be roaming around cemetaries on Halloween weekend!

Totally, totally have friends like that. When we started dating they would blame FI and my no longer crazy out all night up til 5 am lifestyles on me and resented it. But it's like, there is a reason to be crazy...because you're single and have nothing better...that's why we don't do it anymore, so-rry. Don't get me wrong, we still like to have a good time but we're not single people anymore!

On the other hand...I love white trash bashes. So fun!

  • have fun on your date!

we are laying low for halloween this year. we had plans to go to our best man's and wife's house saturday for movies and food...but they had their baby yesterday!! it is a tad scary because she was 8 weeks early - but so far they are optimistic and she's breathing on her own, has all of her fingers and toes, 17" long, 3.5 pounds. we are most likely going to see baby and mom this weekend when it is ok to visit...keep little grace in your prayers, please!
  • Snwin - It was pretty terrible. I really wish I didnt have to go through it. Its hard being in your mid 20's sometimes because thats what happens. Some people are ready to settle down (I mean I did enough crazy til 24 and its not like I dont get crazy now, I just just dont get wild. ha) and some people want to live that like forever.

She also has never had a BF ever. So she doesnt understand what it is like. Also- to be blunt, she is jealous.

I hate that people have to be like that but I have created a new group of friends and its been lovely!!!

  • aschmidtt - I'm sorry to hear about the early delivery! Baby Grace is in my thoughts!! They will most likely keep her until she reaches at least 6 pounds and is closer to her due date.

Date nights are the best! Lately we haven't been able to (moving and finances), but spending time together is always a lot of fun. I'm hoping we can go out for my birthday next month on a date night...I have my heart set on some AWE-SOME Mexican food. Mmmm!

  • @ Asch - Baby Grace is in my thoughts.

@Snwin- I am so sorry but what is an auction? I am not trying to be insensitive but I just don't get why you would pay for your grandmas stuff. Please enlighten me.

Fiance is going in Saturday and Sunday to work. he will  be putting in 4 hours each day to make up for not going in Tuesday. he felt it was needed to stay home with me since I was having problems. Saturday not sure what we are doing. plans are still up in the air. Sunday I will be watching Project Runway with our friend. We are both super excited to see it. I will work on some homework and maybe make some more origami cranes.

Date night is not strange. I think it is important. We have gone on dates to the movies when in different cities. We go see the same movie about the same time and call each other after and talk. I call it long distance dating. We go on dates occasionally. Some months more then others. We always have a great time.

Oh you're not being insensitive. I guess I should have thought that maybe not everybody does them where they live.

Where I am from it's common when an old person passes on or moves out of their house into a nursing home, etc. that their children auction off their belongings. I think they call them "estate auctions" sometimes. My grandma passed away the end of last year and my aunts and uncles are getting some of the stuff sorted out. For all the kids (my mom and aunts and uncles) they picked several items that were meaningful that they wanted to stay in the family and they drew for them (for example my mom got the cedar chest my grandpa made for my grandma). With the rest of the stuff it will be auctioned off. The grandkids didn't really get to pick anything out or draw for anything, and there may be other stuff the my aunts and uncles want, so pretty much our chance to get it is to bid on it at the auction along with people there to buy antiques, stuff for their homes, etc.

Auctions are very popular around here, and not always just for people's personal belongings. Sometimes places host auctions every fall or spring where people enter their stuff they want to sell (a diner by my house has two a year) and other places like auction barns (for livestock) do auctions like once a week or so and auctioning is what the place does for business. And if you've seen an auctioneer on tv or somewhere else before, yes the guys talk real fast and funny, haha!

I just figured auctions happened everywhere! Haha can tell I'm from a small town!

Anyways, that's why I want to pay for my grandmas stuff, it will be my only chance to get something to remember her by :)

What co-ed fraternity are you in?? People always look at me strange when I say I'm in one! I'm in Phi Sigma Pi :)

FI and I have gone to Olive Garden for special occasions twice and he's gotten sick both times. It's my favorite restaurant so I refuse to take him there anymore!!! First time for his graduation/birthday he got food poisioning and the second time for my birthday it flared up his gout too much. Oy. Never again!!! haha

  • We LOVE date nights!!!! Probably because they're so rare, being that we live 2000 miles apart!!  FI and I are always talking about how we can't wait for another date night!  I love getting dressed up and looking good for him!  I think it's important to continue trying to look good for the other person, even though we've been together forever (almost 7 years) and are very comfortable.  Date nights can help keep you out of a rut!

Since we can't actually go on date nights, FI and I set up Skype date nights.  Sometimes we watch a movie together or just each get a bottle of wine and drink it while we talk.  We also still try to dress up and look good for each other, even though it's just over the internet.  SO FUN!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your grandma.  Hope you get some good things at the estate sale to remember her by.  Maybe you will find something that you can wear on your wedding day to honor her!
