My fiance' and I have decided to have an adult only wedding, but children 12 and older are o.k. How do we put this on the invites without offending anyone?

    Simply address the invitations to those invited. If a family has children 12 and older, put those children on the invitation.

    I agree. Put the names of those invited on the envelope. You might also spread the word via family and friends. Be prepared to have some offended guests, but stick to your guns!

    Well, it's not an adult-only wedding unless everyone in attendance is over the age of 18.  Don't refer to it as an adult-only wedding if you're making exceptions, that's a surefire way to piss people off.

    Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married.     You're also going to run into some problems if a family has one or more children over the age of 12 but some younger than the age of 12.  While we did raise our children to understand that sometimes your brother will get to go to things that you won't, not everyone will feel the same way.

    I agree with aerin - don't call it adult only and then invite adolescents.  Just address the envelope to those people who are invited.

    Like it was mentioned before... Prepare to have some seriously offended guests but stick to it if that's what you want. 

    In my wedding, FI and I decided to hire 3 baby-sitters to have the kids at all time so they won't interrupt but will be able to come along.

    Listen, it's your wedding. If you want only 12 and up invited, then invite 12 and up.

    The biggest suggestions are to spread the word (tell your mom, your FMIL, and your aunt who can't keep her mouth shut, etc.)

    Address it to "Mr. Mike Delfino, Mrs. Susan Delfino and Ms. Julie Mayer" but leave out "Mr. MJ Delfino" (sorry, only example I could come up with!

    If they RSVP for 4 (Mike, SUsan, Julie and MJ), then you gotta make the awkward call and say "We're sorry, but we can't accomodate children under 12"

    Options:
    1. Be honest, say you'd prefer only 12+
    2. Lie, and say your venue cannot accomodate
    3. Lie, and say your budget cannot accomodate

    It might seem kind of odd to just have 12 and up.  What if folks have a 10 year old and a 12 year old?  Maybe it would be less confusing if you just invited adults?

    What we are doing to avoid any confusion & avoid having rsvp for extra guests/children is on the rsvp card naming those exactly invited and adding  the number of seats for them.

    Example: 2 seats are reserved in your honor
    Names
    ___attending ___not attending

    Well the wording will be a little more formal but you get the point.
