Would this be weird?

I really want to rent these two chair covers for my gold chivari chairs. The problem is they are $20-$25 per cover. I will be having about 100 chairs. Would it be weird to cover 1/2 of the chairs with a cover so every other one would be covered and the other ones would be just the plain gold chair? My colors are midnight blue, blush and gold and I will be having midnight blue satin table linens. Thanks!

Re: Would this be weird?

  • Chiavari chairs are lovely and classy on their own. I understand why you like the chair covers (I do like the second link), but I think they're totally unneccessary. If you have money to burn and can cover ALL of the chairs, then go for it. I do think it'd look weird with only half of the chairs covered.

  •
Are you worried about not being able to afford enough to cover all of them?

Yep- it's too much for me to cover all 100 chairs, so I was thinking about covering every other. I didn't think it would be too weird but keep the opinions coming. Another option is to do all the chairs in one or two rooms. I am getting married in a castle and having a station wedding with tables and stations in different rooms. So I can do all the chairs in one room. I really like the chair covers and am really excited about them, so I defintiely want to use them in some capacity. Thanks!
  • I don't get the point of having Chivari chairs if you're just going to cover them.

If you want an honest opinion, that first cover looks ridiculous. And $25 per cover is absolutely obscene.

My suggestion, if you REALLY want them, just get one for your chair and one for FI's. You can get what you want and have something special for yourselves, but you won't be blowing nearly $3K on freaking FABRIC.

I would do this but we don't have our own place to sit. It's a cocktail party style wedding, so we don't have a head table or anything. I don't plan to spend 3k that's the point... I can only afford to spend 1k on them max... that's why I can't cover all my chairs. Also, I dont think they would fit any other chair but chivari. I love the first one!
  • I like the second one, not the first one. I think covering every other chair with the second one would be fine. Doing every chair would be overwhelming anyway, so every other should work out great.

For the record, I wouldn't use them at all, Chivari chairs are the nicest you can get, but it sounds like you're set on using them.

  • I thought it may have been overwhelming too... I will think about it. I have 18 months left to go so I have plenty of time to decide. I'm hoping I could use them because I love them but I will see how much $ I'm able to save and if it's in my budget when things get closer. Thanks for the opinions.
  • You have chivari chairs!! Why are you covering them up?! I wish my venue had chivari chairs.. then I wouldn't be paying an extra $550 to cover up the ugliness that is their chairs.

Yes, it'll look weird to only cover half of your chairs. If you're really dead set on covering them there are several websites where you can order chair coverings for MUCH cheaper than $20-$25 a chair! I can't see the pictures of the ones you picked out because the links are blocked at work.. booo..but check out these websites for everything from chair covers.. chair sashes.. and all other chair and table linens:

  • I'm with the PPs, why would you cover nice chairs? Especially at $20-$25 a pop. Save your money or put said money towards something else to make the tables look nicer.

If you insist on doing this anyway, yes, doing every other chair is going to look weird.

  • I hate them both. I'm not a fan of chair covers in general unless the chairs are just really nasty looking. And that price is crazy.
  • I love chivari chairs, I am covering my hideous brown metal chairs because they are hideous.

I do see why you like these covers (well the 2nd one anyway- the first one is kind of weird) I would just do one room if you are dead set on them!

To be completely honest, most people won't notice whether your chairs are covered or not.

Are there other things that you can do to add the "wow" factor? Can you spend that money on cool lighting or a photo boooth, a chocolate fountain? Just MOH!

  • It sounds like you're really set on adding extra decor to your chivari chairs. Can you get a look you like with just ribbon? Like this? I actually like this look better, and it has to be less expensive than those chair covers you posted.

  • What if you went with blue seat cushions? Both of the chair covers look silly & if you are renting them, you might have to pay for the cleaning since people will be walking on them all night. I would use the 1k to upgrade either the food or the champagne or maybe add more staff. Just because you have 1k doesn't mean you have to spend 1k. Chair covers are mostly used for hiding fugly chairs. If your heart is set on them, would it be cheaper to buy them? What if you used them just for the chairs at the ceremony?
  • I generally hate chair covers. And many times guests don't notice if the chair is covered or not. But, these are definitely different and would probably be noticed. I particularly like the second one. I think it would look great if you covered every other chair or even every third, especially since it is a cocktail reception.

I'd ask myself "do I really NEED them?" If you're doing a cocktail style reception, I personally think the answer is no. Also, if you can't afford to cover all the chairs, then yes, it would look weird.

I know you love them, but do you really need them?

  • I find the first one horrible. The second one is okay. I don't really understand chair covers but whatever floats your boat. I'd take that 1k and upgrade a part of the reception the guests will actually care about.
