Tag-along Guests

I'm sure this question gets asked a lot on this board but... How are you guys handling guests that RSVP with more people than were invited? I want to have a very diplomatic and polite way of saying "your seventeen year old son does not get to bring a date to my already over-crowded wedding."

[QUOTE]You call and say "I'm really sorry, but the invitation was only for You, Person, and Person. Unfortunately we cannot accomodate extra guests."

This.  And if they still press the issue then they are douches.

  • hahaha thanks ladies!
  • I am going with budget.  Which is actually true.  I want a 50-75 person wedding.  Our guest list, once we added everyone on his side of the family, was over 300.  I flipped.  We decided no children as that took slightly more than 100 people off the guest list.  It was either cut children or family members that we actually speak to and have gone to visit.  I have had one person try to say that he was not going to bring his kids to the wedding, but that the 4 of them were thrilled to go to the reception.  GRRR...cutting costs at the wedding is nothing, as we all know, it is the reception that costs.  I politely told him that unfortunately due to budget, the kids were not invited.  Took two rounds of me saying "I'm sorry, but no children under 18 were invited due to space and budget" but he seems to have managed to grasp it.  It is a sticky thing, but the size of my fiance's family made us have to make some decisions that allowed the wedding to look like the wedding we wanted without hurting the feelings of some family members...well, more than necessary.
